Turning Point USA Frontlines reporter Savanah Hernandez has launched a civil lawsuit against three members of the Ostroushko family after they were captured on video allegedly assaulting her while she covered an anti-ICE protest in Minneapolis.
The complaint, filed in the US District Court for the District of Minnesota, accuses Christopher, DeYanna, and Paige Ostroushko of assault and battery arising from the April 11 demonstration outside the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building. According to The Post Millennial, the filing states that Hernandez was viciously and repeatedly attacked while reporting on protests tied to what organizers branded National F*ck ICE Day.
Hernandez publicly announced the civil action on X, emphasizing her intent to pursue full legal accountability for the alleged attack. I promised to use every legal avenue to hold the Ostroushkos responsible and will be working with @MurdockJDF as we continue to pursue justice, she wrote.
She further declared that the family would now face consequences on multiple fronts, both criminal and civil. Chris, Deyanna, and Paige are all facing federal charges and will also now be facing a civil suit for their violent and egregious behavior. Not only did this family attack me, but they then doubled down and went on a media tour to further lie about me while attempting to raise money. I made a promise that I wouldnt let them get away with this and am looking forward to keeping it.
The civil lawsuit follows closely on the heels of federal criminal charges announced by Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche. Just a week earlier, Blanche revealed that a federal grand jury had indicted Christopher, DeYanna, and Paige Ostroushko in connection with the same incident.
Blanche condemned the alleged conduct as an attack on both physical safety and free expression. Hernandez was allegedly surrounded, physically assaulted, and shoved to the ground simply because she was identified by the defendants as a conservative journalist. That is NOT peaceful protest, Blanche said.
He underscored that politically motivated violence, particularly against members of the press, would be met with firm federal action. These deplorable actions as charged in the indictment will not be tolerated in America, and this Department of Justice will always punish unhinged acts of political violence, he added.
According to the civil complaint, Hernandez arrived at the Minneapolis protest intending to document the event as she had done at numerous other rallies and demonstrations. The filing asserts that once protesters recognized her affiliation with TPUSA, the atmosphere turned hostile, with individuals surrounding her, hurling obscenities, mocking her Christian faith, and ordering her to leave.
The lawsuit singles out Paige Ostroushko as a primary aggressor in the confrontation. It alleges that Paige repeatedly advanced on Hernandez, screaming at her to get the f*** out while contributing to the escalating mob harassment.
DeYanna Ostroushko is accused of physically escalating the situation by shoving Hernandez while shouting profanities and making comments about her ethnicity. The complaint portrays this as part of a coordinated effort to intimidate and silence a conservative reporter rather than any form of lawful protest.
The filing further alleges that Christopher Ostroushko body checked Hernandez as tensions mounted. He is also accused of screaming profanities directly into her ear, adding to the chaos and intimidation surrounding the journalist.
Beyond the actions of the Ostroushko family, the lawsuit describes a broader pattern of abuse by protesters targeting Hernandez. It claims demonstrators blew whistles directly into her ears, slapped her in the face with sex toys, repeatedly shoved her to the ground, and physically blocked her attempts to exit the area.
Video evidence cited in the complaint allegedly shows Paige Ostroushko trailing Hernandez while continuously blowing a whistle just inches from her ear. The filing states that this conduct caused ringing that persisted into the following day, underscoring the physical impact of what was portrayed by activists as protest.
The lawsuit also recounts a final, forceful shove as Hernandez tried to leave the protest zone. The complaint states that Chris Ostroushko violently shoved her to the ground with both hands, an act that was reportedly captured on video and widely circulated online.
As a result of the alleged assault, Hernandez claims to have suffered significant physical and emotional harm. According to the filing, she sustained a concussion, strained muscles in her ankle and cervical spine, severe neck and lower back pain, dizziness, headaches, and ongoing emotional trauma, and her prescription glasses were also broken during the altercation.
The suit further alleges that the Ostroushko family did not express remorse but instead celebrated the incident in its aftermath. They are accused of appearing on media programs to cast themselves as victims while using a GoFundMe campaign to solicit donations, even as video evidence appeared to contradict their narrative.
Hernandez is seeking compensatory damages for medical expenses, emotional distress, lost wages, and property damage, along with punitive damages and injunctive relief aimed at deterring similar conduct in the future. For many conservatives, the case has become emblematic of a broader climate in which left-wing activists feel emboldened to target right-leaning journalists, raising serious concerns about political violence, religious bigotry, and the erosion of free press protections in public spaces.
