A Secret Service officer assigned to security duties during President Donald Trumps visit to Florida has been arrested after allegedly following a woman through a Miami-area hotel and then masturbating outside her room.
According to The Post Millennial, Miami-Dade deputies arrested Officer John A. Spillman after he was discovered in a hotel hallway engaged in the lewd act. WSVNs Sheldon Fox reported that Spillman had allegedly trailed a woman, causing her to flee into her room out of fear for her safety.
The US Secret Service told WSVN that Spillman was in the Miami-Dade area as part of the security screening detail at Trump Doral for the president's visit. Officials emphasized that he had not been part of Trumps details other [than] for perimeter security. He was off duty when arrested.
He has been charged with indecent exposure, a serious allegation that raises questions about vetting and discipline within federal protective services. Doubletree Hotel security staff informed the Miami-Dade Sheriffs Office that Spillman had been seen on the 6th floor with his pants lowered.
Per RealClearPolitics, the incident occurred shortly after midnight on Monday, when the victim said she was in the hotel lobby and noticed Spillman allegedly following her and another person. She entered a room because she was in fear for their lives, according to the arrest affidavit, which further noted, The victim saw the defendant masturbating next to their hotel room.
Spillmans bail has been set at $1,000, and a hearing is scheduled for May 27, leaving many to question whether federal agencies are doing enough to uphold standards of conduct among those entrusted with national security. For conservatives who expect law enforcement and protective details to embody professionalism and restraint, the case underscores the need for accountability without allowing the misconduct of one off-duty officer to be used as a political weapon against President Trump or his security operations.
