Dashcam video released Sunday captured the startling moment a United Airlines jet, descending into Newark Liberty International Airport, clipped a light pole and struck the top of a bakery truck traveling along the New Jersey Turnpike.
The incident, which unfolded in broad daylight as the aircraft was on final approach from Italy, has raised fresh questions about aviation safety and infrastructure planning near major U.S. airports, according to Gateway Pundit. Authorities said the plane struck a light pole and a tractor-trailer on the New Jersey Turnpike while on final approach to Newark Liberty International Airport on Sunday afternoon, damaging the truck and sending its driver to the hospital with minor injuries, authorities said. Despite the collision, officials confirmed the aircraft continued its descent and landed safely with only minor damage.

WABC reported that a United Airlines flight arriving from Italy struck a light pole on the New Jersey Turnpike while on final approach to Newark Liberty International Airport on Sunday afternoon, damaging a truck and sending its driver to the hospital with minor injuries, authorities said. There were 221 passengers and 10 crew members on board, and United said the aircraft taxied to the gate normally and sustained only minor damage.
The Port Authority Police Department and New Jersey State Police responded to the scene on the Turnpike, where the driver was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released. Wild dashcam footage shows the moment the plane hit the top of the bakery truck, a jarring reminder that even in a highly regulated industry, serious near-misses can occurand that competent emergency response, not bureaucratic overreach, remains the most effective safeguard when things go wrong.
