Turning Point USA has denounced a viral TikTok trend that uses the final words of its late founder Charlie Kirk, recorded moments before his assassination, as background audio for lighthearted outfit-transition videos.
As reported by The Post Millennial, the organization issued its rebuke after a widely shared clip showed three teenage girls standing in casual clothing while audio of Kirks last moments plays beneath their performance. In the recording, taken from an event at Utah Valley University where Kirk was addressing gun violence and crime statistics, he can be heard asking a questioner for clarification: Counting or not counting gang violence, Kirk says in the audio before the shot that killed him rings out.
The girls appear to mouth Kirks words, then make hand motions mimicking a shooting gesture before the video cuts to the trio dressed in what appears to be prom attire. The juxtaposition of a political assassination with frivolous social media content has sparked outrage among conservatives who see it as emblematic of a culture that mocks both life and law and order.
Turning Point USA condemns in the strongest terms the TikTok audio trend that uses or references the assassination of our founder, Charlie Kirk, for entertainment, the organization said in a statement posted to X. Charlie Kirk was the victim of a real act of political violence. Turning that into viral content is grotesque and dehumanizing. There is nothing harmless, funny, or acceptable about it. It reflects a culture that trivializes violence and reduces real human loss to a punchline, TPUSA continued. This has no place on TikTok. Or anywhere. This audio needs to be removed.
Kirks alleged assassin, Tyler Robinson, is currently in custody awaiting trial in a case that has drawn national attention amid rising concerns over political violence against conservative figures, including President Donald Trump and his allies. Court filings submitted last Friday requested that portions of Robinsons upcoming preliminary hearing be closed to the public and that certain exhibits be sealed.
According to the filing, Robinsons attorneys asked the court to close "those portions of the preliminary hearing testimony which would not be admissible at trial or which, if publicly disclosed prior to trial, may prejudice Mr. Robinsons constitutional right to a fair trial," and to seal "exhibits presented at the preliminary hearing which would not be admissible at trial or which, if publicly disclosed prior to trial, may jeopardize Mr. Robinsons constitutional right to a fair trial." As the legal process moves forward, conservatives argue that the spectacle made of Kirks death on TikTok underscores a deeper moral decay in popular culture, where the dignity of victims and the gravity of political violence are increasingly sacrificed for fleeting online notoriety.
