Fetterman Breaks With His Own PartyBut His Chilling Warning Speaks To Both Sides

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) warned that the prolonged shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) left the nation exposed, arguing that hostile foreign actors such as Iran had months, months to plan an attack on President Donald Trump and other high-profile conservatives.

Appearing on Newsmax TVs The Record, Fetterman claimed that key federal security assets were effectively benched during the standoff, a situation he described as both unnecessary and dangerous, according to Breitbart. He argued that while some Democrats demand changes to immigration enforcement, crippling the entire department is a reckless tactic that does nothing to advance their stated goals.

[F]or all this time, the DHS has been shut down, like, these resources have been sidelined for no reason, Fetterman said, criticizing the shutdown strategy that has become a favored pressure tool on the left. And its unreasonable if you want to have some reforms for ICE, but shutting the entire DHS down does not accomplish any of those things.

Fetterman went further, explicitly tying the security lapse to Irans longstanding hostility toward President Trump and the recent shooting at the White House Correspondents Dinner. And Iran already has had an established history of wanting to assassinate Trump. They would have had months, months to plan on that. Honestly, I would say we got really lucky last nightthere were [many] other people in that line [that] could have been harmed as well.

He underscored that the potential targets were not limited to President Trump, but included a roster of prominent conservative leaders and media figures. You had Vance, you had Trump, you had Johnson, you had Rubio, you have Hegseth, you have all these kinds of people, like, closely right there. And thats really the reality. And that was the danger.
