Prince Harry has once again thrust himself into the center of global politics, and once again it has not ended well for him.
According to the Gateway Pundit, the self-exiled royal appeared in Kiev, using his latest pseudo-royal tour to lecture world leaders on the stalled peace process between Russia and Ukraine, a subject many would argue is far beyond his experience or authority. The younger son of King Charles, who has traded duty for celebrity in California, appeared intent on positioning himself as a moral arbiter on war and peace, despite having no official role and no mandate from the British people.
That overreach drew a sharp and unmistakable rebuke from US President Donald J. Trump, who has never been inclined to accept lectures from Hollywood-adjacent royalty. Trump responded with characteristic clarity, declaring that Prince Harry does not speak for the UK, a pointed reminder that the Duke of Sussex abandoned his responsibilities when he walked away from royal life.
The Telegraph reported: Mr. Trump told The Telegraph that the Duke of Sussex, who lives in California, was not a voice for Britain after he criticized the US president for not doing enough to end the war. Prince Harry is not speaking for the UK, thats for sure, Mr. Trump said. I think Im speaking for the UK more than Prince Harry. The US president also added: Prince Harry? Hows his wife?
That last remark was widely seen as a nod to Trumps long-standing view that Harry is p***y whipped by his American former starlet wife Meghan Markle, whose progressive activism has helped steer the couple firmly into left-wing celebrity politics. In Kiev, Harry avoided naming Trump directly, but his target was obvious as he called on American leadership to do more.
The United States has a singular role in this story, he said. Not only because of its power, but because when Ukraine gave up nuclear weapons, America was part of the assurance that Ukraines sovereignty and borders would be respected. Yet the oft-repeated claim about Ukraine giving up nuclear weapons ignores the historical reality that those weapons belonged to the Soviet Union, not to an independent Ukrainian state.
Mr. Trump also said on Thursday that he would not oppose inviting Putin to the G20 summit, which is set to take place in December at the US presidents Doral golf club in Miami. If he came it would probably be very helpful, he told reporters, but added that he doubted Putin would come and was not aware of an invitation to Russia. While Harry chases applause on the global stage, Trump continues to frame diplomacy in hard-headed, results-oriented terms, underscoring the contrast between celebrity activism and serious statecraft.
