The Republican grassroots are once again confronting the spectacle of Senate leadership retreating from a defining fight over election integrity.
According to The Gateway Pundit, Senate Majority Leader John Thune has effectively shelved President Trumps signature election security measure, the SAVE America Act, after the chamber spent 14 days in recess. The move has sparked outrage among conservatives who see the bill as a critical safeguard against the kind of chaos and irregularities that have plagued recent election cycles.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) publicly exposed the leaderships reversal in a blunt message to voters. Just so America knows, after two weeks in recess, John Thune is no longer considering the SAVE America Act, Luna declared on X, accusing the Senates Republican hierarchy of abandoning a core promise to secure the ballot box.
For months, Senate leaders have postured as defenders of election integrity while slow-walking meaningful reforms and entertaining half-measures. Now, Thune has openly signaled that there may be other pressing stuff more important than election integrity, according to Punchbowl, a stance that many conservatives view as a direct betrayal of the voters who handed Republicans unified control of Washington.
Punchbowl News reported that The Senate will come off of the SAVE America Act this week & may not return to it any time soon, if at all. When they start voting on the ICE/Border Patrol budget resolution, SAVE will no longer be the pending business That means Thune would need to hold another procedural vote to restart floor debate. The outlet further noted that Thune does NOT commit to holding a vote to get back onto the SAVE America Act after the budget resolution & FISA reauthorization are done. (Senate will come off of SAVE this week to pass the budget resolution; would require another vote) If we dont have other pressing stuff in front of us that has to get donethen well see about getting that going, Thune tells.
Luna responded with a pointed ultimatum that captured the mood of many conservatives furious with Washingtons priorities. No Voter ID? No FISA, she warned, tying any renewal of controversial surveillance authorities to concrete action on voter identification and ballot security.
Sen. Mike Lee added to the pressure, sharply criticizing the leaderships stance and aligning himself with the conservative base. When Americans want one thing (the SAVE America Act) and the Swamp wants another (FISA 702 reauthorization without reforms), the Senate GOP should side with the people not the Swamp. So why is this so difficult? Lee asked, underscoring the widening gap between Republican voters and their own leadership.
President Trump labeled the measure the SAVE America Act because, in the eyes of its supporters, thats exactly what it does, protecting the nation from the chaos of unchecked illegal voting that helped steal elections in the past. With Republicans holding the White House, House, and Senate, conservatives argue there is ZERO excuse for this failure, and many are now demanding accountability.
Prominent conservative voices on X are openly calling for at least five Republican senators to vote to remove John Thune as Senate Republican Leader over his refusal to advance the SAVE America Act, framing the moment as a test of whether the party will stand with its voters or with the entrenched D.C. establishment.
