Womans Chilling New Claim Against Eric Swalwell Collides With Newly Unearthed Campaign Records

Murphys Law the notion that anything that can go wrong will go wrong has rarely found a more vivid political example than the spectacular collapse of Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwells career this week.

The progressive California congressman, once touted by the left as a rising star and a reliable attack dog against President Trump, is now exiting the national stage in disgrace after announcing both the withdrawal of his bid for California governor and his resignation from Congress amid a wave of sexual assault allegations, as reported by Western Journal. His fall underscores a familiar pattern in progressive politics: those who most loudly posture as moral arbiters often prove unable to live by the standards they demand of others.

Swalwell, who is married and the father of three, has been accused by multiple young female staffers and associates of sexual misconduct, with one allegation in particular now drawing intense scrutiny. While he has largely vanished from public view ostensibly to focus on his family the public and the press are not prepared to simply move on from the serious claims now dogging his name.

The most explosive allegation comes from Lonna Drewes, who stepped forward this week with a harrowing account of what she says happened during a meeting with Swalwell in West Hollywood. He raped me, and he choked me. And while he was choking me, I lost consciousness, Drewes said during a Tuesday news conference, later adding, I thought I died.

Drewes maintains that Swalwell initially approached her under the guise of professional mentorship, offering to connect her with contacts who could help her software company. She said their first two meetings were perfectly pleasant and friendly, before the alleged assault at a West Hollywood hotel turned what she thought was a business opportunity into a nightmare.

Swalwells legal team has responded with categorical denials, framing the accusations as politically motivated. These accusations are false, fabricated and deeply offensive a calculated and transparent political hit job, Swalwells attorney said, even as the congressman himself has vaguely admitted he failed his wife while rejecting any claims of assault or rape.

Yet while Swalwell and his defenders insist the allegations are baseless, online investigators have unearthed documentation that appears to place him at the scene Drewes described. Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin and California Target Book Research Director Rob Pyers used public records to highlight a campaign expenditure that aligns with the time and location of the alleged attack.

The Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department says the alleged rape of Lonna Drewes by Eric Swalwell took place in July 2018 in the 900 block of Hammond Street, Melugin posted to X on Tuesday. He then added crucial detail: This comes back to the Montrose Hotel. Campaign finance expert [Rob Pyers] has flagged a travel expense from Swalwells campaign at the time, with FEC records showing Swalwell for Congress spent $361 in travel expenses at the Montrose Hotel on July 18th, 2018.

Swalwell has consistently denied all accusations of sexual assault and abuse and has not been charged with any crime to date, a fact his allies will undoubtedly emphasize as investigations proceed. Still, for a lawmaker who built his brand on sanctimony and partisan theatrics, the convergence of sworn testimony, law enforcement timelines, and campaign finance records raises serious questions that Democrats and the media that once championed him can no longer easily ignore.
