House Democrats led by Rep. Jamie Raskin are now demanding that the White House subject President Trump to a formal cognitive examination and release the findings to the public.
According to Gateway Pundit, Raskin and his colleagues have urged the presidents official physician to conduct a full mental evaluation, despite having spent years dismissing or attacking anyone who raised similar concerns about Joe Bidens obvious cognitive struggles. The same Democrats who once insisted Biden was sharp and fully capable now claim that President Trumps words and actions in recent months particularly those surrounding the Iran war have raised enough questions about the presidents mental acuity to merit a comprehensive cognitive assessment.
As reported by The Hill, Raskin sent a letter to Sean Barbabella, a Navy captain serving as Trumps White House doctor, pressing for a detailed review of the presidents mental state and demanding that the results be made public. Experts have repeatedly warned that the President has been exhibiting signs consistent with dementia and cognitive decline. And, in recent days, the country has watched President Trumps public statements and outbursts turn increasingly incoherent, volatile, profane, deranged, and threatening, wrote Raskin, the senior Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee.
Raskin further claimed, His apparently deteriorating condition has caused tremendous alarm across the nation (and political spectrum) about the Presidents cognitive function and continuing mental fitness for the office of President, and prompted concerns about the Presidents wellbeing. Yet this sudden concern rings hollow from a party that circled the wagons around Biden until the political cost became unbearable and party leaders effectively pushed him out of the 2024 race.
Video from earlier this year shows Raskin vigorously defending Bidens mental state, even as voters watched the president struggle through speeches, interviews, and public appearances. In fact, Raskin has been engaged in this partisan weaponization of medical and mental fitness narratives since at least 2017, consistently targeting Republican presidents while shielding Democrats from similar scrutiny.
For many conservatives, the latest demand is not a serious medical inquiry but a political stunt designed to delegitimize a president they could not defeat on policy or performance. Raskin and his fellow Democrats, having forfeited credibility by excusing Bidens decline for years, now do not have a single leg to stand on here as they attempt to lecture the country on cognitive fitness.
