President Donald Trump has thrown his weight behind former Fox News host Steve Hilton, issuing what he called his COMPLETE & TOTAL ENDORSEMENT in Californias 2026 gubernatorial race.
According to Mediaite, President Trump used a lengthy Truth Social post to praise Hilton, declaring, I have known and respected Steve Hilton, who is running for Governor of California, for many years, before outlining why he believes the conservative commentator is the right man to lead the deeply blue state. The endorsement underscores Republicans determination to challenge progressive dominance in Sacramento and to reverse the policies that have driven residents and businesses out of California in record numbers.
In his post, President Trump blasted the current Democratic leadership in stark terms, writing, He is a truly fine man, one who has watched as this once great State has gone to Hell. Gavin Newscum and the Democrats have done an absolutely horrendous job. He continued his indictment of liberal governance, adding, People are fleeing, crime is increasing, and Taxes are the highest of any State in the Country, maybe the World. Steve can turn it around, before it is too late, and, as President, I will help him to do so!
Trump further promised that a Hilton administration, backed by a supportive White House, could engineer a dramatic turnaround for Californias struggling economy and public safety. With Federal help, and a Great Governor, like Steve Hilton, California can be better than ever before! Steve Hilton has my COMPLETE & TOTAL ENDORSEMENT. He will be a GREAT Governor and, importantly, WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!!! President DONALD J. TRUMP.
Hilton is one of more than a dozen Republicans vying for the GOP nomination in 2026, signaling a crowded but energized primary field. His campaign has already drawn high-profile conservative support, including endorsements from former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, Hollywood actor Jon Voight, and the late Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk who was assassinated in September.
A naturalized American citizen born in London, Hilton previously served as director of strategy to former UK Prime Minister David Cameron, giving him experience at the highest levels of government. He later became a prominent voice on Fox News between 2017 and 2023 and in 2020 publicly demanded an investigation into alleged voter fraud after Trump was defeated by Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election.
On the Democratic side, the field includes Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), former congresswoman Katie Porter, and billionaire Democratic donor Tom Steyer, all of whom are expected to defend the progressive status quo that has defined California politics for years. The eventual winner will replace Gov. Gavin Newsom, who is barred from seeking another term, setting up a pivotal contest over whether the state doubles down on liberal policies or gives a conservative reformer like Hilton a chance to reverse course.
