Oracle is facing backlash after abruptly laying off thousands of employees while simultaneously pursuing thousands of visas to bring in foreign workers under the H-1B program.
According to The Post Millennial, data from US Citizenship and Immigration Services shows that Oracle has filed roughly 3,126 H-1B petitions for fiscal years 2025 and 2026, including 436 applications this year alone. Amazon has followed a similar pattern, announcing 16,000 corporate job cuts in January after previously revealing 14,000 layoffs in October, while still submitting about 2,675 H-1B petitions over the same period. For many Americans, especially conservatives who prioritize national sovereignty and the dignity of domestic labor, this looks less like innovation and more like a calculated effort to replace citizens with cheaper foreign labor.
On Blind, an anonymous employee forum, one user called the H-1B petitions a "slap in our face." The same poster urged others to pay attention to the human cost, writing, "If this doesn't make you angry, maybe you need to read some heartfelt posts on LinkedIn from Oracle employees who are US citizens and have been laid off after working at Oracle for years."
Another commenter highlighted what many see as a broader trend in Silicon Valley, stating, "Look at all big tech companies, they do massive layoffs then rehire at lower salary." A third user was even more blunt about the implications for national cohesion, declaring, "Transnational corporations are disloyal to the American state and the nation."
H-1B petitions are intended to allow companies to hire foreign workers when they cannot find qualified Americans, a justification that is increasingly difficult to accept amid mass layoffs. While tech firms insist the program is vital for cutting-edge innovation, critics argue it has become a tool to undercut US wages and sideline American professionals in their own country.
Copies of Oracles layoff email informed employees, "After careful consideration of Oracle's current business needs, we have made the decision to eliminate your role as part of a broader organizational change. Those pushed out were told they would be "eligible to receive a severance package subject to the terms and conditions of the severance plan."
The Oracle cuts come as the tech sector undergoes sweeping disruption driven by artificial intelligence, with 52,050 tech layoffs recorded in the first quarter of 2026 alonea 40 percent jump from the previous year.
