Watch This Late-Night Meltdown: Stephen Colbert Sneers At Millions Of Trump Backers On CBS

Late-night host Stephen Colbert used his CBS platform this week to deride Americans who continue to strongly support President Donald Trump, mocking them in a segment that underscored Hollywoods ongoing contempt for conservative voters.

According to Breitbart News, Colbert seized on a recent UMass YouGov poll during Tuesdays episode of The Late Show, highlighting that There are still 22.4 percent [of Americans] who strongly approve of President Trump, a line that drew boos from his studio audience. The left-wing comedian then stepped toward the camera and sneered, Who are you? as if baffled that millions of Americans still back the Presidents agenda.

Colbert proceeded to caricature Trump supporters with a crude impression, declaring, Well, I want gas to be expensive. I want the Kennedy Center blowed up, a remark that trivialized both economic hardship and national landmarks. In a further attempt to shame the Presidents base, he added, And I know this is a pipe dream, but is there any way that maybe, maybe, we could get Denmark to hate us? Because I would just love it if the price of licorice went up, too.

The host went on to claim that high gas prices and poor poll numbers might be spooking Trump, citing a Wall Street Journal report alleging the President is willing to end the U.S. military campaign in Iran even if the Strait of Hormuz remains largely closed. On Monday, Colbert also appeared to stumble into echoing Barack Obamas 2008 slogan Yes, We Can while attempting to ridicule President Trump, inadvertently reminding viewers of the previous Democratic administration.

As Breitbart News reported, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert is set to air its final episode on May 21 after CBS announced last July that the program would not be renewed, calling the move a financial decision. For many conservatives who have long viewed Colberts show as a vehicle for partisan attacks rather than comedy, its cancellation will likely be seen as a small but telling verdict from the marketplace.
