A woman accused of opening fire on the Los Angeles home of pop star Rihanna has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly unleashing seven rounds while 10 people were inside the residence.
The Los Angeles Police Department responded to the singers Beverly Crest property around 1:15 p.m. on Sunday following reports of gunfire, a jarring reminder of the growing sense of lawlessness in major liberal-run cities, according to The Blaze. Authorities say the suspect, 35-year-old Ivanna Ortiz, was tracked down and apprehended miles away with the help of technology and air support, underscoring how critical robust policing remains despite ongoing efforts by progressives to weaken law enforcement.
Chief Jim McDonnell announced Tuesday that Ortiz had been arrested and booked on suspicion of attempted murder. He said Ortiz was initially held on $10.225 million bail, a figure later reduced to $1.875 million despite the gravity of the allegations and the number of potential victims.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman stated that Ortiz faces one count of attempted murder, 10 counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, and three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper. McDonnell did not say whether Rihanna, her rapper partner ASAP Rocky, or their three children were present at the time of the shooting, leaving unanswered questions about how close this incident came to becoming a high-profile tragedy.
Investigators said a witness provided a description of the vehicle from which the shots were allegedly fired. Using automated license plate readers and an LAPD helicopter, officers traced the car roughly eight miles away to the Sherman Oaks Galleria shopping center, where the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
Police reported recovering the firearm along with seven spent casings from what they described as an assault rifle. Detectives also uncovered disturbing social media posts allegedly linked to Ortiz, in which she appeared to fixate on the singer with paranoid and occult-tinged accusations.
Are you there? ... Say something to me directly instead of sneaking around like you talking to me where I'm not at, one post reads. Another claimed Rihanna was doing her little music thing so she can do witchcraft, language that will likely fuel questions about the suspects mental state and the role of online radicalization.
Authorities confirmed that no one was physically injured in the attack, a fortunate outcome given the number of people inside the home. McDonnell said the steep bail was justified because there had been 10 people inside the home during the shooting, and they were all considered victims, a stance that aligns with a tougher-on-crime approach many Americans continue to demand as violent incidents test the limits of public tolerance for lenient justice policies.
