Steve Toth Turns On John Cornyn After Crushing Dan Crenshaw

Fresh off a decisive primary victory over Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), Texas State Rep. Steve Toth is now moving to help unseat another entrenched incumbent: Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX).

Toth, who routed Crenshaw by more than fifteen points in Tuesdays Republican primary, is formally backing Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in the GOP runoff for U.S. Senate. According to Breitbart, Toth is aligning himself with the grassroots surge behind Paxton as conservatives seek to deny Cornyn a fifth six-year term in Washington.

During my time in the Texas Legislature, I have come to know Ken Paxton on both a professional and personal level, Toth told Breitbart News. As our Attorney General, Ken has been a staunch defender of conservative values and constitutional rights. Paxton has emerged as the clear favorite among the partys base, despite being heavily outspent by Cornyn and his allies, who poured upward of $70 million into the primary compared to Paxtons roughly $4 million.

The momentum behind Paxton accelerated after Tuesdays election, as President Donald Trump signaled he will intervene in the race. The President, who stayed neutral in the initial primary, announced Wednesday he intends to endorse one of the candidates and urge the other to step aside, a move that has energized Paxtons MAGA-aligned supporters and sharpened scrutiny of Cornyns long record in the Senate.

Toth, speaking again to Breitbart News, highlighted Paxtons record of confronting the Biden administration and defending Texas sovereignty. Ken often served as the last line of defense for Texans during the Biden Administration years, securing major wins for border security, blocking COVID-19 vaccine mandates, and protecting our children. Ken Paxton is battle-tested, he said.

Some politicians talk tough during election years and then fail to protect our values or deliver for their constituents. Ken Paxton is one of the rare few who follows through. That contrast underscores conservative frustration with Cornyn, who has spent nearly two decades in Washington and, critics note, almost ten years working to thwart President Trumps agenda and dilute the conservative movement.

Toth also pushed back on the character attacks leveled at Paxton by Cornyns well-funded consultant class, which has focused more on smearing the attorney general than defending Cornyns own record. On a personal level, I know Ken as a selfless servant who has always put Texas before his own personal interests, he said. That is what we desperately need from the people we send to D.C., and its why I am endorsing him in his race to be our next United States Senator.

With the runoff set for May 26, conservatives now face a stark choice between a battle-tested attorney general who has taken on the Biden administration and a career senator closely tied to the GOP establishment. The outcome will signal whether Texas Republicans prefer an unapologetic America First fighter in Paxton or another six years of Cornyns go-along, D.C.-driven brand of politics.
