As reported by Western Journal, the Roadrunners dismal 8-22 season and last-place standing in the Big West Conference have been almost completely eclipsed by the criminal case surrounding temporary assistant coach Kevin Mays. The program, already struggling on the court, now finds itself under a cloud of suspicion and moral rot that raises serious questions about oversight, hiring practices, and the broader culture within university athletics.
According to ESPN, the saga began in August, when then-head coach Rod Barnes received an anonymous email alleging that Mays had been operating as a pimp in four different states. The tipster, who claimed to have identified a woman allegedly being trafficked by Mays, warned, FIX IT OR THE WHOLE STAFF WILL FALL, and described the message as both a first warning and a final warning.
Barnes forwarded the email to university officials, triggering an internal review that soon escalated into a full-fledged criminal investigation. That probe culminated in Mays being arrested and held without bail, facing 11 separate charges that span both felonies and misdemeanors.

Prosecutors allege that Mays possessed automatic firearms and high-capacity magazines, along with methamphetamine and marijuana that authorities say were intended for distribution.
Investigators further claim that Mays had amassed more than 600 images of child sexual abuse material and had distributed obscene content involving a minor. Despite the gravity of the allegations, Mays has pleaded not guilty to every charge, setting the stage for a legal battle that will keep the university under an unwelcome spotlight.
