Left-wing Hollywood activist Jane Fonda used a protest outside Los Angeles City Hall to denounce President Donald Trumps policy toward Iran, branding his actions dangerous and insane and accusing him of launching an unprovoked war.
According to Breitbart, the 86-year-old actress, long derided by critics as Hanoi Jane for her infamous propaganda visit to communist North Vietnam during the Vietnam War, claimed that the strike on Iran brought back memories of that era. She again cast herself as a moral authority on U.S. foreign policy, despite her history of siding with Americas enemies in the 1960s.
Fonda accused President Trump of waging an illegal conflict and insisted he is putting profit over people. She framed the administrations actions not as a response to Iranian aggression, but as a reckless escalation driven by ulterior motives.
Right now we are witnessing the horror of an unnecessary, unprovoked war of choice, raged by the Trump administration, that has already taken the lives of dozens of schoolchildren because they bombed a girls school in Iraq, among other civilian targets. Right now, parents are pulling their children out of the rubble, their bodies out of the rubble, Fonda said. Her remarks offered no acknowledgment of Irans long record of sponsoring terrorism, attacking U.S. interests, and destabilizing the region.
She went further, directly accusing President Trump of endangering American lives. This dangerous and insane war against Iran not only violates international law and our constitution and War Powers Act, but risks exploding into a vast war of mass proportion, taking the lives of many, including U.S. servicepeople, she bloviated.
Californias Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom quickly joined the chorus, issuing a statement that echoed the lefts narrative of an illegitimate war. The corrupt and repressive Iranian regime must never have nuclear weapons. The leadership of Iran must go, he wrote before going on the attack against Trump.
But that does not justify the President of the United States engaging in an illegal, dangerous war that will risk the lives of our American service members and our friends without justification to the American people. President Trump is putting Americans at risk abroad because he is unpopular at home. Newsom added, As this unfolds, California stands with the Iranian-American community in our state, recognizing they have many friends and loved ones who have fought bravely to chart their own future to end decades of state violence and denial of basic rights.
With Newsom widely seen as maneuvering for a 2026 presidential run, his sharp criticism of President Trumps Iran policy underscores how leading Democrats are using foreign policy crises to score domestic political points, even as they downplay the threat posed by a hostile, terror-sponsoring regime.
