The Trump administration forcefully rejected a CBS News narrative on Monday that downplayed the criminal records of illegal immigrants arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
According to Sean Hannity, CBS News claimed on X that Less than 14% of nearly 400,000 immigrants arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in President Trumps first year back in the White House had charges or convictions for violent criminal offenses, according to an internal Department of Homeland Security document obtained by CBS News.
The outlet further asserted that The official statistics contained in the DHS document, which had not been previously reported publicly, provide the most detailed look yet into who ICE has arrested during the Trump administrations far-reaching deportation operations across the U.S.
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin publicly challenged the framing, stressing that the medias narrow focus on violent offenses ignores a long list of serious crimes. Drug trafficking, Distribution of child pornography, burglary, fraud, DUI, embezzlement, solicitation of a minor, human smuggling are all categorized as non-violent crimes, she wrote on X, underscoring how liberal media classifications can sanitize dangerous behavior.
McLaughlin emphasized that the administrations enforcement priorities remain firmly focused on public safety and the rule of law. Like we said, ~70% of those illegal aliens arrested under @POTUS Trump and @Sec_Noem have pending criminal charges or prior convictions, she added, directly contradicting the implication that most detainees are harmless.
President Trumps Rapid Response team went further, accusing the corporate press of minimizing the threat posed by criminal illegal aliens. The Fake News seems to think that illegal alien drug traffickers, drunk drivers, burglars, and those with weapons chargeswhom they classify as nonviolent offendersshould be left alone, allowed to roam freely within the United States. Not under this administration, the team declared, signaling that, despite media spin, the White House intends to continue robust enforcement against those who violate both immigration and criminal laws.
