The 22-year-old daughter of Republican Minnesota gubernatorial candidate Jeff Johnson was found fatally stabbed in her St. Cloud apartment on Saturday evening, in what authorities describe as a failed murder-suicide carried out by her husband.
According to the Gateway Pundit, Hallie Marie Tobler was discovered dead from multiple stab wounds after St. Cloud Police officers responded to a medical emergency call at approximately 8:20 p.m. at the couples locked residence. Law enforcement officials say her husband, 23-year-old Dylan Michael Tobler, was also found inside the apartment suffering from life-threatening stab wounds that investigators have determined were self-inflicted.
Police report that Dylan Tobler was transported to St. Cloud Hospital, where he remains in stable condition and under police guard as the investigation proceeds. Once he is medically cleared, authorities expect he will be transferred to the Stearns County Jail to face homicide charges in connection with his wifes death.
Johnson, a former St. Cloud City Council member and a prominent Republican now seeking the governorship in 2026, has suspended his campaign following the killing of his daughter. The Minnesota Republican Party issued a formal statement on Monday, reflecting the shock and grief felt across the states conservative community.
The Minnesota Republican Party is heartbroken by the tragic loss of Dr. Jeff Johnsons daughter, who was killed in a violent crime Saturday night in St. Cloud. There are no words that can adequately express the sorrow we feel for Jeff and his family. The loss of a child is unimaginable, and our thoughts and prayers are with them as they grieve this devastating tragedy.
Out of respect for his family and the enormity of this loss, Jeff has suspended his campaign for Governor of Minnesota. We ask all Minnesotans to join us in lifting up the Johnson family during this incredibly painful time. We also extend our gratitude to the first responders and law enforcement officers involved and ask for patience and compassion as the investigation continues.
In a state where political battles are often fierce, the response to this crime has underscored a shared respect for family, faith, and the rule of law that transcends partisan lines. Anyone with information about the murder is urged to contact the St. Cloud Police Department or Tri-County Crime Stoppers, as investigators work to secure justice for a young woman whose life was cut short in an act of domestic violence.
