Cannes Film Festivals Turns Into MAGA Hate Fest With This Celebrity Taking The Lead

Robert De Niro, the Hollywood star and father of seven, has publicly criticized former President Donald Trump, calling support for him "insane" during a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival on Sunday.

De Niro, who plays William Hale, a convicted cattle baron who murdered a member of the Osage nation over oil rights in Martin Scorsese's new movie Killers of the Flower Moon, compared Trump to the film's murderous villain. The actor stated that evil still exists in the world, and Trump is a manifestation of it.

"We see it today, of course. We all know who I'm going to talk about, but I won't say the name because that guy is stupid. Imagine if you're smart. Even Hale was smart in many ways. It's something that is systemic, and that's the scary part about it," he said. De Niro added, "Look, with Trump, there are people who still think he can do a good job. Imagine how insane that is."

Killers of the Flower Moon, co-financed by Paramount and Apple, premiered at Cannes over the weekend and is set to open in cinemas in October before streaming on Apple TV+.

The movie, based on David Grann's non-fiction bestseller, recounts the murders of Osage Indians in Oklahoma during the 1920s over control of their oil rights. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Lilly Gladstone.

During the Trump administration, De Niro frequently expressed his hatred of the President, often using profanity. At the 2018 Tony Awards, the actor yelled "Fuck Trump!" multiple times on stage, eliciting a standing ovation from the audience.
