An illegal alien who violently assaulted federal immigration officers in the sanctuary state of Massachusetts has received a prison sentence, underscoring the public-safety risks critics associate with lax immigration enforcement.

According to Breitbart, Guido Andres Alexander Cuellar-Batres, a Guatemalan national who overstayed his visa, was sentenced on January 12 to eight months in federal prison and one year of supervised release. The case stems from a targeted Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation on May 4, 2025, when agents approached Cuellars vehicle and instructed him to exit the car.

Cuellar refused to comply and kept his hands out of view, forcing agents to remove him from the vehicle. At that point, he began violently resisting arrest, biting an agent and attempting to bite another before striking an agent several times, according to court records.

Even after being handcuffed, Cuellar continued to fight the officers as they tried to place him in a government vehicle. He escalated the assault by head-butting one agent and spitting into another agents eyes, behavior that federal authorities say illustrates the dangers their officers face on the street.

On October 30, 2025, Cuellar pleaded guilty to forcibly assaulting, resisting, opposing, impeding, intimidating, or interfering with federal officers engaged in the performance of official duties. ICE Boston Acting Field Office Director Dave Wesling noted that Cuellar had overstayed his visa by more than four years, rendering him an illegal alien under federal law.

Wesling stressed that ICE will not allow Cuellar to return to the community once his prison term is complete. ICE is prepared to arrest Cuellar when hes released from prison hes been sentenced to a crime that falls under the Laken Riley Act, Wesling said. When we initially arrested him, he attacked our officers and a DEA agent and under this administration, there is zero tolerance for those who violently assault the brave men and women of ICE Boston who are on the ground fighting to keep our communities safe.
