Stephen A. Smith Explodes On Gavin Newsom For Trashing Trump In Davos

SiriusXM host Stephen A. Smith sharply rebuked Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom for attacking President Donald Trump on foreign soil during a World Economic Forum appearance in Davos, Switzerland.

According to the Daily Caller, Newsom used his time before European elites to deride the American president as a T-Rex and to claim, You mate with him or he devours you. Smith, speaking on his program Straight Shooter with Stephen A, drew a clear line between domestic political debate and what he views as airing Americas internal disputes before an international audience.

Respectfully, what are you doing? Youre the governor of the state of California in the United States of America, Smith said, questioning why Newsom chose a Swiss venue to disparage the president. Why are you over in Davos, Switzerland, talking to folks and speaking negatively about the president of the United States?

Smith then played audio of Newsoms critique of President Trumps Davos speech, underscoring what he saw as a breach of basic national solidarity. I have no problem with Gavin Newsom being candid and open about his feelings about our President on United States soil, he said, before drawing a firm boundary on foreign criticism.

To go over to another country, Switzerland, to go over there and to be in the presence of other European leaders speaking against the president of the United States Im not down with that. Yall might be. Im not down with that at all. For Smith, the issue was less about partisan disagreement and more about loyalty to the countrys image abroad.

Say whatever you want here as a governor from the opposite side of the aisle of a state in the United States on American soil. Fine, he added. But Im one of those people when we go somewhere else, its America first. You know, our problems, yeah, are our problems, but we aint taking dirty laundry outside.

Smith also faulted Newsom for refusing to give a straightforward answer on whether boys can become girls during a January 15 episode of This Is Gavin Newsom, highlighting what many conservatives see as the Democratic Partys radical drift on gender ideology. See, that kind of stuff cant be associated with the Democratic party, he said. Im telling you right now: you associate that stuff with the Democratic party, Im telling you, youre going to lose the midterms.

The criticism of left-leaning figures was not limited to Newsom, as Smiths concerns echoed broader conservative frustration with liberal elites who disparage America from comfortable platforms overseas. ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, for instance, delivered a four-minute Christmas address on Britains Channel 4 in which he mocked Trumps America, declaring, I honestly have no idea whats going on over there, and adding, I do know whats going on over here, though, and I can tell you that from a fascism perspective, this has been a really great year. Tyranny is booming over here.
