Mitt Romneys sister-in-law, Carrie Elizabeth Romney, left a suicide note in her car before fatally plunging from the roof of a California parking structure last year, according to newly released records.
As reported by Gateway Pundit, the 64-year-old was discovered unresponsive on the street beside a five-story parking garage near the Valencia Town Center mall in October. Authorities had responded to a Friday night call reporting a deceased woman near the structure, who was later identified as former Senator Mitt Romneys sister-in-law, Carrie Romney.
Carrie Romney was married to Mitt Romneys older brother, 81-year-old attorney George Scott Romney, and the couple had been married for eight years. Their divorce, however, remained unresolved at the time of her death, casting a harsh light on a bitter legal dispute behind the scenes.
According to divorce records obtained by The New York Post, George Romney was attempting to ensure that his wife received nothing in the split. The prominent lawyer, whose brother wields significant political influence, sought to block his wife from receiving spousal support and said they had no shared property.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiners Office confirmed in December that Carrie Romney died by suicide after sustaining blunt traumatic injuries from the fall. In a full autopsy report, its been revealed that Romney fell backwards from a seated position on a parking structure rooftop.
The Daily Mail reported that Mitt Romneys sister-in-law Carrie left behind a note before she fell to her death off the roof of a parking structure near a California shopping mall. Medical Examiner Dr Emily Lo wrote that security footage showed Romney pacing around on the top level for an extended period before the fatal plunge.
Lo detailed that Romney then sat backwards on the terrace edge of the parking structure and plunged to her death. She further revealed that Romney had a history of suicidal ideation and previously attempted to take her own life.
The revelation that a politically connected family member was locked in a contentious divorce while allegedly being cut off from support raises uncomfortable questions about duty, loyalty, and the human cost of high-powered legal and political lives.
While the medical findings are clear, the circumstances surrounding Carrie Romneys final monthsmarked by emotional distress, financial conflict, and a documented history of suicide ideationunderscore a tragedy that extends far beyond a single fall from a rooftop.
