Comedian Adam Carolla is calling out the corporate press for suddenly discovering concerns about presidential fitness now that Donald Trump is back in the Oval Office, after years of downplaying or outright denying obvious questions about Joe Bidens mental and physical decline.
According to the Daily Caller, Carolla used his Wednesday appearance on The Adam and Dr. Drew Show to argue that establishment outlets such as CNN, The New York Times, MSNBC and ABCs The View have forfeited any moral authority to lecture the public about Trumps stamina or cognition.
Outlets like CNN, The New York Times, MS NOW and The View have recently floated the narrative that Trump is showing signs of fatigue in his second term, even as he maintains a heavy foreign travel schedule and frequent media engagements.
Carolla said these same organizations spent years shielding Biden from scrutiny, and that their sudden pivot to alarm over Trumps condition exposes a nakedly partisan double standard.
You lose credibility and you look foolish when you attempt to do things that are sort of transparent and seem like theres an agenda CNN, [MS NOW], whoever, ladies of The View who are talking about Trumps decline or cognitive abilities or whatever that is, you have lost all rights to comment on this subject considering you just covered with a guy who was severely impaired, Carolla said.
You covered for him for a number of years and you said nothing said the opposite.
Carolla went further, arguing that media outlets that misled the public about Bidens condition should effectively be barred from weighing in on Trumps health for years to come.
So what I would like to say to CNN is, in college, programs get into trouble and then they have a 5-year moratorium on bowl games. No more bowl games. You guys are on probation for a decade or 5 years You shall not be able to participate in this thing for 5 years, he added.
CNN, you have lost your privilege on commenting on the presidents decline mentally for the next 5 years. You cant say a word about it because all you did was lie about the last guy who did have a problem And ladies of The View, you should be on probation.
His comments reflect a broader frustration on the right that legacy media, rather than acting as neutral watchdogs, have become partisan actors who selectively deploy health narratives depending on which party holds power.
The New York Times recently leaned into that storyline with a piece headlined, Signs of Fatigue: Trump Faces Realities Of Aging in Office, by White House reporter Katie Rogers and journalist Dylan Freedman.
The Times reported that as of Nov. 25, Trump had reduced his domestic travel and public schedule compared with his first term, even while acknowledging his stepped-up foreign travel and frequent press appearances.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt directly confronted that framing during a Dec. 1 briefing, accusing the Times and Rogers of trying to undermine Trumps fitness after years of running interference for Biden.
I will point out one fake news story over the weekend before I let you all go from The New York Times that took about one-third of the presidents daily calendar and his daily schedule and said that hes doing less than he did in his first term or he might not be fit for the job, Leavitt said.
That is unequivocally false and its deeply unfortunate that this story was written by the same outlet and the same reporter who wrote this. Biden is doing 100 percent fine after tripping while boarding Air Force One.
Leavitt underscored that the administration has concrete medical evidence contradicting the narrative of decline, rather than anonymous speculation or selective calendar snapshots.
The press secretary also said during the same briefing that a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in October showed Trump remains in excellent overall health.
That statement stands in sharp contrast to the years when questions about Bidens falls, verbal stumbles and visible frailty were routinely brushed aside as right-wing talking points by the same outlets now sounding alarms about Trumps age.
Meanwhile, former CNN host Jim Acosta attempted to bolster the decline storyline on a Tuesday episode of Fast Politics w/ Molly Jong-Fast, claiming Trump no longer holds rallies.
Yet Trump held a lengthy rally in Pennsylvania the very night the episode was released, undercutting Acostas narrative and reinforcing conservative claims that much of the coverage is driven by spin rather than facts.
Corporate media spent years dismissing or minimizing Bidens obvious decline ahead of his disastrous June 2024 debate against Trump, a performance that finally forced even some liberal commentators to acknowledge what conservatives had been warning about all along.
Carollas demand for a kind of journalistic probation captures a sentiment widely shared on the right: that outlets which covered for a severely impaired President have not merely made mistakes, but have compromised their credibility so deeply that their attacks on Trumps fitness now ring hollow.
