Conservative Journalist Nick Sortor Detained In Minneapolis After Rioters Threatened To Kill Him

Conservative journalist Nick Sortor was briefly detained by police in Minnesota after a violent encounter with anti-ICE rioters who allegedly surrounded his vehicle, shattered its windows, and threatened to murder him and fellow journalist Cam Higby.

According to Gateway Pundit, Sortor had been on the ground in Minneapolis documenting Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations and the left-wing agitators who routinely trail federal agents. Earlier on Sunday, he was reportedly assaulted by a mob outside an ICE facility, prompting law enforcement to deploy tear gas and pepper balls to restore order.

The situation escalated later in the day when Sortor and Higby attempted to leave the area in their vehicle and were swarmed by protesters who shoved trash through open windows, dumped debris on the hood, and spat on the truck. Thank GOD federal agents were nearby, or this couldve gotten ugly, Sortor reported, underscoring how quickly the demonstration devolved into outright lawlessness.

As night fell, rioters again surrounded the vehicle, this time smashing windows with frozen water bottles, spray-painting the exterior, and issuing explicit death threats against the two journalists. Sortor, fearing for their lives, accelerated through the crowd to escape, a move he later described as a last resort to get out of harms way through the rioters.

Detailing the ordeal on X, Sortor wrote, These are the moments leading up to Minneapolis anti-ICE rioters SURROUNDING my vehicle, smashing my windows, and attempting to kiII Cam Higby and me. He added, I was forced to drive away to save our lives, repeatedly warning those standing in front to GET OUT OF THE WAY. They didnt listen, so I had no choice but to go anyway.

According to his account, the mob then escalated their tactics, using vehicles to hem the journalists in as they fled. They then used vehicles to BLOCK US as we were running, forcing me to throw the truck off the road to go around them. Then, it appears we were CHASED down the interstate by another one of their goons, he wrote, describing a scene more akin to political vigilantism than peaceful protest.

Sortor said the rioters then attempted to weaponize law enforcement against him by falsely claiming to police that he and Higby were armed and running innocent protestors over. I have to post this now because these idiots called the police on me saying I had a gun and was running innocent protestors over, he explained, denouncing the tactic as an effort to silence conservative reporting.

You can try to terrorize me all you want. BUT I WILL NEVER STOP, AND NEVER SHUT UP, Sortor vowed, signaling that he intends to continue covering ICE operations and leftist unrest despite the threats. Both he and Higby posted video evidence of the confrontation, challenging the narrative pushed by the rioters.

To escape the mob, Sortor said they fled to a nearby police station, only to be detained after Minneapolis authorities requested a hold. Detained by Eagan Police, because we fled to their station. They were detaining on behalf of Minneapolis Police, Sortor wrote, adding, Have since been released.

The episode highlights a growing pattern in which radical activists, shielded by progressive city leadership, attempt to intimidate and criminalize conservative journalists rather than engage in civil debate. As President Donald Trump and many on the right have long warned, when lawless mobs are indulged instead of prosecuted, the first casualties are public safety, free speech, and the ability of reporters to document the truth on the ground.
