In a recent address to House Republicans, President Donald Trump warned that a failure to maintain GOP control in the 2026 midterms could lead to a third impeachment attempt by Democrats.
He urged lawmakers to secure a decisive victory in November to safeguard his "America First" agenda and prevent what he described as Democrat overreach.
According to One America News, Trump, speaking at a House Republican policy retreat, emphasized the importance of the upcoming elections, which will determine whether the GOP retains its majorities in Congress. "You got to win the midterms, because if we dont win the midterms, its just going to be I mean, theyll find a reason to impeach me," he stated.
Trump, who was impeached twice during his first term but acquitted by the Senate each time, argued that Democrats are more aggressive in their political maneuvers, suggesting that Republicans should have impeached President Joe Biden for "100 different things."
The stakes of the midterms are high, with all House members and about a third of the Senate up for re-election. Trump, addressing Republicans at the Trump-Kennedy Center, highlighted the unpopularity of certain Democrat policies, which he believes do not resonate with the majority of Americans. He criticized Democrat stances on issues like open borders and transgender policies, contrasting them with what he described as the GOP's "great, solid common sense policy."
Trump also took the opportunity to tout his administration's achievements, particularly his confrontations with the pharmaceutical industry in 2025. He pledged to apply similar tactics to compel health insurance companies to reduce prices for American families, accusing industry executives of profiteering at the expense of the public. "Let the money go not to the big fat cats and the insurance companies that made 1,700% over the last short period of time," he declared, emphasizing that funds should be directed to individuals to purchase their own healthcare.
In addition to healthcare, Trump announced plans to meet with major oil executives to initiate drilling in Venezuela, following the capture of socialist dictator Nicols Maduro. He promised that tapping into Venezuela's oil reserves would further reduce prices for U.S. consumers. "Im also meeting with oil companies We got a lot of oil to drill, which is going to bring down oil prices even further," he stated, with meetings expected to include executives from Exxon Mobil, Chevron, and ConocoPhillips.
The potential for a third impeachment looms large, with Congressional Democrats poised to investigate the Trump administration should they regain control in 2027. Representative Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) has already suggested that recent military actions in Venezuela could serve as grounds for impeachment. "Today, many Democrats have understandably questioned whether impeachment is possible again under the current political reality," she remarked, indicating a reconsideration of her stance on the matter.
As the political landscape remains charged, the outcome of the 2026 midterms will be pivotal in shaping the future of Trump's presidency and the broader direction of the nation. The GOP's ability to retain control of Congress will determine whether Trump's agenda can continue unimpeded or if Democrats will seize the opportunity to challenge his administration further.
