In a move that has sparked significant attention, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office has reportedly removed the death reports of Rob and Michele Reiner from its website, following a court order requested by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
According to Breitbart, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Deirdre Hill has granted the LAPD's request to block the public release of the autopsy reports for actor-director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, as the department continues its investigation into their deaths. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office, which had previously confirmed the deaths as homicides, acknowledged receiving the court order that prohibits the release of the autopsy details.
The court order explicitly prevents the medical examiner from including any investigative information, notes, reports, or photos related to the couple's deaths in its public database, as stated in the document obtained by the Los Angeles Times. Consequently, the cases have been removed from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiners website. An LAPD spokesperson explained to the newspaper that the records were sealed to ensure detectives from the Robbery-Homicide Division could access crucial information before it reached the media and the public.
"The order was not sought to undermine transparency," the spokesperson emphasized. This type of court order, known as a "security hold," has been employed by law enforcement agencies in previous investigations, particularly those involving celebrities and high-profile cases. Details previously released from the medical examiner's reports revealed that Rob and Michele Reiner died from "multiple sharp force injuries" in what is suspected to be a homicide, as reported by USA Today.
Further examination of their death certificates indicates that Rob Reiner's time of death occurred before his wife's, with his marital status listed as "married," while Michele Reiner is noted as having been "widowed" by the time of her death. The couple, who were cremated on December 19, succumbed to their injuries within minutes, though the precise date and time of the injuries remain "unknown," according to the county's deputy coroner.
Authorities have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with fatally stabbing his parents inside their Brentwood home "in approximately the early morning hours" of December 14, before fleeing the scene. He was apprehended later that night on suspicion of first-degree murder and has been held without bail since. Nick, who has yet to enter a plea, is scheduled for arraignment on January 7.
If convicted, Nick Reiner faces the possibility of life imprisonment without parole or the death penalty. Alana Mastrangelo, a reporter for Breitbart News, can be followed on Facebook and X at @ARmastrangelo, and on Instagram.
