FBI Director Kash Patel has unveiled a significant development in the Minnesota fraud scandal, disclosing that the FBI is advocating for the denaturalization and deportation of numerous individuals implicated in a $250 million scheme that misappropriated taxpayer funds intended for feeding children during the COVID pandemic.
According to Gateway Pundit, Patel emphasized that this revelation is merely "the tip of a very large iceberg," as investigations intensify to uncover further corruption within federal programs. In a detailed statement shared on X, Patel responded to a viral video by independent journalist Nick Shirley, which exposed Somali scams, by elaborating on the dismantling of a $250 million fraud operation linked to the Feeding Our Future network.
This organization, tasked with distributing federal food aid to needy children, instead became a conduit for fraudulent vendors, shell companies, and extensive money laundering.
Patel's statement read: "The FBI is aware of recent social media reports in Minnesota. However, even before the public conversation escalated online, the FBI had surged personnel and investigative resources to Minnesota to dismantle large-scale fraud schemes exploiting federal programs. Fraud that steals from taxpayers and robs vulnerable children will remain a top FBI priority in Minnesota and nationwide."
The investigation has so far resulted in 78 indictments and 57 convictions, with defendants such as Abdiwahab Ahmed Mohamud, Ahmed Ali, Hussein Farah, Abdullahe Nur Jesow, Asha Farhan Hassan, Ousman Camara, and Abdirashid Bixi Dool facing charges ranging from wire fraud to money laundering and conspiracy.
The perpetrators not only engaged in unprecedented fraud but also attempted to obstruct justice. Abdimajid Mohamed Nur and others were charged with trying to bribe a juror with $120,000 in cash. Those responsible have pleaded guilty and received sentences, including a 10-year prison term and nearly $48 million in restitution in related cases.
The FBI maintains that this is just the beginning, vowing to continue tracing the money trail and safeguarding children, with the investigation still very much active. Additionally, many individuals are being referred to immigration officials for potential denaturalization and deportation proceedings where applicable.
Patel's update arrives amidst a wave of criticism targeting Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, whose administration was responsible for overseeing the distribution of these federal funds. President Trump has criticized Minnesota as a "hub of fraudulent money laundering activity" and condemned Walz for his failure to prevent the theft.
Adding to the controversy, billionaire Elon Musk recently called for Walz's prosecution in a viral X post, stating "Prosecute @GovTimWalz," in response to an investigative video by journalist Nick Shirley that exposed apparent fraud in Minnesota's childcare programs.
The video highlighted instances of empty daycares receiving millions in public funds. With the investigation ongoing, Patel's post indicates that further arrests and disclosures could be on the horizon.
