In a recent incident that has sparked controversy, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent found himself the target of a public confrontation by activists from the far-left organization, CODEPINK.
The unexpected encounter took place at a Washington D.C. restaurant, which Bessent later characterized as a "setup" orchestrated by the establishment's owner.
According to Gateway Pundit, the incident occurred at the Reveler's Hour restaurant, located north of the White House. Bessent was less than impressed with the dining experience, stating that the food was subpar. The protest was led by Olivia DiNucci, who initiated the confrontation by making a loud announcement in the restaurant, drawing attention to Bessent's presence.
"We want to make an announcement! We have a special guest here, and we want to make a toast for the Secretary of the Treasury, Scott Bessent!" DiNucci proclaimed. She went on to criticize Bessent's policies, saying, "So let's give it up for the man who is eating in peace as people starve across the world based on his sanctions, which are economic warfare."
The unexpected interruption was met with boos from Bessent and other diners who were simply trying to enjoy their meals. One activist retorted to the critics, "Of course you're going to boo this. It's the truth!" DiNucci continued her tirade, accusing Bessent of overseeing the deaths of 600,000 people due to sanctions annually. Bessent responded to the accusations, stating, "You are ignorant, and you have no idea how ignorant you are," while raising his wine glass.
The confrontation continued with DiNucci questioning, "How many people are going to die because of the blood that's on your hands?" Bessent's complaints to the wait staff seemed to fall on deaf ears, as no action was taken.
In an unusual twist, one activist claimed to have spit in Bessent's food before leaving the restaurant. The activist described his actions, saying, "he spit in his food, stood up, looked at the waiter, and sauntered off like a real housewife."
Following the incident, Bessent appeared on Fox's Laura Ingraham show to discuss the confrontation. He expressed his lack of regret over the interruption, stating that he "wasn't that sad" about it because "the food wasn't very good at the restaurant." He further alleged that the restaurant owner was complicit in the setup, promising a future MAGA night at the same venue.
Bessent also took the opportunity to criticize DiNucci, saying, "Clearly, her dad didn't pat her on the head enough when she was younger. So now, the rest of us have to live with this."
When asked by Ingraham if the incident would intimidate him, Bessent responded, "First of all, Im not going to be a coward." He reiterated his belief that the restaurant owner was involved in the setup and reaffirmed his plans for a future MAGA night at the venue.
This is not the first time CODEPINK has targeted high-profile figures. In September, the group ambushed President Trump at a D.C. restaurant while he was celebrating the success of his crime crackdown in the capital. These incidents highlight the increasing tension between conservative figures and far-left activists, a dynamic that continues to shape the political landscape.
