Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia has made it clear she will oppose the fiscal year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
Her decision, announced on Tuesday, stems from concerns about the allocation of taxpayer dollars to foreign aid and military engagements abroad.
In a post on X, Greene criticized the NDAA, stating it is "filled with Americans hard earned tax dollars used to fund foreign aid and foreign countrys wars." She highlighted the alarming national debt, which fiscaldata.treasury.gov reports has surpassed $38.39 trillion.
"These American People are $38 Trillion in debt, suffering from an affordability crisis, on the verge of a healthcare crisis, and credit card debt is at an all time high.
Funding foreign aid and foreign wars is America Last and is beyond excuse anymore. I would love to fund our military but refuse to support foreign aid and foreign militaries and foreign wars. I am here and will be voting NO," Greene asserted.
However, as reported by Fox News, House Speaker Mike Johnson has expressed support for the NDAA. He emphasized that the legislation aligns with President Trump's "Peace Through Strength Agenda" by incorporating 15 of the President's executive orders, eliminating progressive ideologies within the Pentagon, enhancing border security, boosting the defense industrial base, and reinstating the warrior ethos.
"This years National Defense Authorization Act helps advance President Trump and Republicans Peace Through Strength Agenda," Johnson stated.
Greene's tenure in Congress is set to conclude early next month, as she plans to vacate her position before completing her two-year term. Her departure comes amid ongoing debates over national priorities and fiscal responsibility, highlighting the tension between domestic needs and international commitments.
