CNN commentator Ana Navarro recently offered a scathing critique of the "peace prize" awarded to President Donald Trump, likening it to a child's toy phone given by parents to make their offspring feel mature.
The event took place at the Kennedy Center, where the draw for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in the United States was being held. However, the primary focus was on President Trump receiving the inaugural "FIFA Peace Prize," a distinction seemingly crafted for his benefit. The president has previously expressed intentions to relocate World Cup matches from cities governed by Democrats, citing concerns over "safety."
According to Mediaite, the "FIFA Peace Prize" was presented to President Trump in the form of a gold trophy and a medal. FIFA has not disclosed the criteria for selecting the recipient, but the award is intended to honor "exceptional actions for peace and unity." Despite this accolade, President Trump has made unsubstantiated claims of having ended over half a dozen wars, asserting that such achievements merit a Nobel Peace Prize.
Navarro, during her appearance on CNN, did not hold back in her assessment of the situation. "I find it a little comical," she remarked. "In a week where weve talked about possible war crimes, where we have seen Donald Trump pardon an actual drug kingpin former president of Honduras who flooded the United States with 400 tons of cocaine, I would say that the FIFA World Cup president, Gianni Infantino, sucking up to him is really low on my rung of outrageous."
Navarro further compared the peace awards to Fisher-Price toys, suggesting that FIFA's president should be recognized for his sycophantic behavior. "Little kids love to play with their parents phone," she elaborated. "So Fisher-Price makes this phone, which is like, you know, its got all these badges that kids can press. Its a fake phone. And so Gianni Infantino said, Ok, how can I possibly flatter Donald Trump? Let me give him a fabricated peace medal, make it gold at the Kennedy Center, and lets have the Village People play. Im telling you, this guy needs to go in the hall of fame of ass-kissing, because this was masterful."
The spectacle of the award ceremony, complete with the presence of the Village People, underscores the theatrical nature of the event. While the "FIFA Peace Prize" aims to celebrate peace and unity, the circumstances surrounding its presentation have sparked debate and criticism, particularly from those who question the legitimacy of the accolade and its recipient.
