In a fiery display of activism, Swedish climate advocate Greta Thunberg launched a scathing attack on Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and her government during a pro-Palestine demonstration in Rome.
Thunberg, known for her outspoken environmental campaigns, did not hold back as she labeled Meloni's administration as a "f**king fascist" regime. Her remarks came amidst a rally organized by the communist trade union USB, which opposed Italy's support for Israel.
Thunberg's recent activities in Italy have been marked by controversy. According to Breitbart, she was banned from Venice after participating in protests with Extinction Rebellion that led to vandalism in the Grand Canal. Shifting her focus from climate issues, Thunberg has now aligned herself with the pro-Palestine movement, seizing the moment to criticize Italy's stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
At the Rome rally, she accused Meloni of being "complicit" in what she described as the "genocide" in Gaza. "I could tell you all in detail exactly how physically repulsed I feel and how heartbroken I feel every time I think about the war criminals in charge, including your fascist f*ck*ng government," Thunberg declared.
Thunberg's rhetoric extended beyond Rome. In Genoa, she joined forces with Francesca Albanese, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Together, they participated in another rally, where Thunberg reiterated her claims of ongoing genocide in Palestine.
"The genocide in Palestine is still ongoing. I repeat, the genocide in Palestine is still ongoing," she asserted. Her accusations against Israel included using aid as a "weapon of war" and attacking Palestine daily.
Thunberg's statements reflect a broader critique of global leadership, which she accuses of prioritizing power and wealth over humanitarian concerns. "In recent years, the world has shown its true nature, continuing to betray the Palestinians every day. Our so-called leaders are failing and are not preventing genocide," she reportedly stated. Thunberg's call to action was clear: "So, it is up to us to rise up, and for this reason, I want to say on behalf of all humanity. Thank you, Genoa. Thank you for being a beacon."
While Thunberg's passionate advocacy resonates with some, her harsh language and radical stance may alienate others. Her criticism of Italy's government and its support for Israel underscores the divisive nature of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, highlighting the challenges faced by nations navigating complex international relations.
