Young Republican Eyeing Pelosi's Seat Wants 2026 'Straight Parade' In U.S.'s Gay Mecca

In a bold move that challenges the status quo of San Francisco's well-known support for the LGBT movement, Darren Stallcup, a Republican candidate for California's congressional seat, has proposed the organization of a "Straight Parade" in the city.

Stallcup, who is vying for the seat currently held by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, made the announcement on Monday, suggesting a celebration of heterosexual love.

San Francisco, with its dedicated district and annual "Pride Parade" held every June for the past half-century, has long been a stronghold for LGBT advocacy. However, Stallcup's proposal, as he posted on X, is to organize a parade for "heterosexuals [sic] people attracted to the opposite sex." He emphasized that the proposed event would be a "peaceful celebration of love between Man and Woman. Respectfully," and invited interested parties to reach out via email.

According to Western Journal, Stallcup later shared a flyer for the proposed "San Francisco Straight Parade," setting the date for April 19, 2026, and featuring the slogan "Man + Woman = Love." This move comes as a stark contrast to the city's "Pride Parade," which has gained media attention for its explicit events and provocative attire.

In the 2024 parade, for instance, an area dubbed "The Fetish Zone" saw attendees participating in explicit activities. One such incident involved a man sitting in an inflatable pool while a woman urinated on him. Another individual, scantily clad with only a dog collar and a small cloth covering his genitals, was seen standing in the pool and clapping. Despite the area being designated for those 18 and above, there were allegations that officials were not verifying ages. Nude men were also reportedly seen in areas where children were present during the parade.

While the concept of a "Straight Parade" is new to San Francisco, it is not unprecedented in the United States. In 2019, Boston hosted a "Straight Pride Parade" that attracted hundreds of participants. As reported by USA Today, marchers waved American flags and chanted slogans such as "it's great to be straight" and "straight lives matter."

The seat Stallcup is aiming for will be vacant following Pelosi's announcement on Nov. 6 that she will not seek reelection. Pelosi's tenure, which began in 1987, makes her one of the longest-serving representatives in the House. While several progressives and Democrats, including state Sen. Scott Wiener and San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan, have launched campaigns for the open seat, Stallcup stands as the sole Republican contender.

Stallcup's campaign website describes him as a "family powered grassroots" Republican candidate who aims to restore the "beautiful San Francisco streets" that he believes "have become a mecca for the destitute." However, Stallcup did not respond to requests for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The proposal for a "Straight Parade" in San Francisco is a clear indication of the changing dynamics in the political landscape. As Stallcup's campaign gains momentum, it remains to be seen how this traditionally left-leaning district will respond to his conservative perspective.
