In a surprising turn of events, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), a retiring congressman and former supporter of President Donald Trump, has issued a stern warning to the President following his recent announcement of an immigration pause from all Third World countries.
The announcement, made on Thanksgiving, was met with mixed reactions, with Greene voicing her skepticism in a pointed manner.
According to Mediaite, Trump's Thanksgiving message was a lengthy and controversial one. He began by extending a "Happy Thanksgiving" to all American citizens and patriots, before launching into a critique of the current state of immigration in the United States. He stated, "The official United States Foreign population stands at 53 million people (Census), most of which are on welfare, from failed nations, or from prisons, mental institutions, gangs, or drug cartels."
Trump's message continued to highlight the financial burden he believes immigrants place on American citizens, stating, "A migrant earning $30,000 with a green card will get roughly $50,000 in yearly benefits for their family." He also blamed the influx of refugees for various societal issues, including failed schools, high crime rates, urban decay, overcrowded hospitals, and housing shortages.
In a particularly pointed section of his message, Trump criticized the Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, and Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, accusing them of inaction and hostility towards the United States. He concluded his message by announcing his intention to "permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries," and to "terminate all of the millions of Biden illegal admissions."
While many of Trump's supporters celebrated this announcement, Rep. Greene was less than impressed. She warned the former president about the dangers of over-promising and under-delivering, stating, "One of the worst mistakes you can ever make is over promise and under deliver. It will leave people furious to the point they wont even appreciate the good things they received." She added, "Big promises have and still are being made"
Greene's warning to Trump comes on the heels of her own announcement that she would be resigning from the House of Representatives. In a video statement released last week, she criticized Trump in no uncertain terms, marking a significant shift in her stance towards the former president.
The implications of Trump's immigration pause and Greene's warning are yet to be fully realized. However, it is clear that the discourse surrounding immigration policy in the United States remains a contentious issue. As the nation grapples with these complex matters, the voices of figures like Trump and Greene continue to shape the conversation, for better or worse.
The conservative perspective on immigration, as exemplified by Trump's message, emphasizes the need for stricter controls and a focus on American citizens' welfare. However, as Greene's response indicates, there is a need for caution in making promises that may not be deliverable, a sentiment that resonates beyond the realm of politics.
