In a bold move, President Trump has announced the immediate termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for thousands of Somali nationals residing in Minnesota.
The decision, which was made public late Friday evening, comes in the wake of significant fraud allegations involving taxpayer money purportedly funneled to the al-Shabaab terror group.
In a statement released on his Truth Social media platform, Trump declared, "Minnesota, under (Democrat) Governor (Tim Walz), is a hub of fraudulent money laundering activity. I am, as President of the United States, hereby terminating, effective immediately, the Temporary Protected Status (TPS Program) for Somalis in Minnesota."
He further added, "Somali gangs are terrorizing the people of that great State, and BILLIONS of Dollars are missing. Send them back to where they came from. Its OVER!"
As reported by RedState, Minnesota is currently grappling with the fallout from the $250 million Feeding Our Future fraud case. Fresh allegations of terror financing within the states Somali community have further intensified the situation. Trump's decision is seen as a direct challenge to the progressive stronghold.
A recent report by City Journal has shed light on the extent of the fraud, dwarfing the Feeding Our Future program's financial misappropriation. The report suggests that Minnesota, under Governor Walz, has been a victim of billions in taxpayer-funded fraud, with a significant portion allegedly committed by members of the states large Somali community.
The Somali community has reportedly exploited Minnesotas Medicaid Housing Stabilization Services program, one of the nations most generous welfare systems. This has occurred while Democratic officials and the media have largely ignored the issue.
The financial implications are staggering, with billions of dollars in taxpayer funds lost. Federal counterterrorism sources have informed City Journal that millions of these stolen dollars were funneled to Somalia, ultimately funding the terror group Al-Shabaab. A confidential source told the outlet, The largest funder of Al-Shabaab is the Minnesota taxpayer.
Minnesota is home to one of the largest Somali communities in the United States. The TPS program had been providing Somali nationals with a temporary safe haven due to the war-torn conditions in their homeland. The program was last extended under the Biden administration and was set to run through March 17, 2026. However, as stated by President Trump, it is now "Over."
In response to Trump's decision, Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar (MN-5) stated, "I am a citizen and so are (the) majority of Somalis in America. Good luck celebrating a policy change that really doesnt have much impact on the Somalis you love to hate. We are here to stay."
Minnesota's 5th congressional district, which includes most of Minneapolis and surrounding areas, houses the largest concentration of Somali Americans in the U.S. Earlier this year, President Trump restricted the entry of foreign nationals from Somalia, citing the nation as a terrorist haven.
Rep. Omar, who moved to the United States in 1995, has often been reminded by Trump that she could always return to her homeland if she continues to criticize the United States. "I love these people. They come from a place with nothing. Nothing. No anything," Trump said following a failed attempt to censure the congresswoman. "And then they tell us how to run our country."
The termination of TPS for Somali nationals in Minnesota is a clear reflection of Trump's stance on immigration and his commitment to safeguarding American interests. It also underscores the need for a thorough investigation into the alleged fraud and terror financing within the Somali community.
The impact of this decision on the Somali community and the state of Minnesota remains to be seen.
