In a move that has become all too familiar, Texas Democrat Representative Al Green has once again pledged to bring articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump.
This announcement marks yet another attempt by Green to impeach the President, a quest that has seemingly become his full-time endeavor. Despite his relentless efforts, Green's previous attempts have been largely ignored by the House, with his impeachment articles consistently being shelved.
According to RedState, Green's fixation on impeaching Trump has been ongoing for years. Earlier this year, he filed impeachment articles against Trump, only for them to be promptly dismissed by the Republican House. Undeterred, Green has now promised another round of impeachment articles "before Christmas," as if it were a holiday tradition.
However, it appears that even his fellow Democrats have little interest in another round of what has been dubbed Green's 'Impeachment Theater' against Trump. Despite this, Green remains resolute, stating, "There will be articles of impeachment filed before the Christmas break. This, I pledge. We have to participate. This is a participatory democracy. The impeachment requires the hands and the guidance of all of us."
Green's call for participation and guidance seems to be directed at his fellow Democrats, who, rather than offering their own policies, seem to spend their time obsessing over the perceived wrongdoings of Donald Trump.
In addition to his impeachment pledge, Green also announced that he and other advocates would hold a peaceful protest at the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday. This announcement comes at a time when the Democrat base in Congress is grappling with how to effectively combat Trump. Some members of the party's progressive wing have expressed dissatisfaction with figures like Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, criticizing Senate Democrats' inability to secure concessions during a 43-day government shutdown.
Even before the shutdown, other party figures, such as Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner, had called for new party leadership in Congress to more effectively resist Republican momentum.
Despite the seemingly laughable nature of Green's impeachment efforts, his reference to a "participatory democracy" does hold some merit. If congressional Democrats were to offer serious, bipartisan policies and legislation, rather than focusing solely on bringing down Trump, they might be able to win back some of the voters who crossed party lines to vote for Trump and down-ballot Republicans in 2024.
However, the likelihood of this happening seems slim. On Thursday, Dave Mytych, outreach lead for For Liberation and Resistance Everywhere (FLARE) a group that describes itself as "the only continuously operating, 24/7 effort to dismantle the 47th President's fascist regime" publicly criticized congressional Democratic leaders while appearing alongside Green at a press conference. Mytych questioned, "This is what the American people want. They want fighters that hold the line. Democrats, are you listening? Leader Schumer, are you listening? Leader Jeffries, are you listening?"
It remains unclear where these individuals are sourcing their information about what the American people want. Similar claims were made prior to the 2024 election, but they seemed to have little impact, other than to further ensure a decisive victory for Trump and congressional Republicans.
In his latest impeachment pledge, Green failed to specify which counts of impeachment he would file, leaving observers to speculate about his next move in his ongoing quest to impeach President Trump.
