House Passes Anti-Socialism Resolution As Mamdani Touches Down In Washington

In a decisive move, the House of Representatives passed a resolution on Friday morning that condemns socialism, with a significant number of Democrats joining Republicans in this rebuke.

The resolution, which passed with a 28598 vote, saw 86 Democrats crossing party lines to oppose the rise of "socialist policies" in the United States, a trend that has gained momentum following the election of New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani.

As reported by Sean Hannity, the resolution was introduced by Representative Maria Salazar of Florida and highlights the historical failures of socialism, citing the regimes of Castro in Cuba, Mao in China, and Maduro in Venezuela, which have been associated with famine, oppression, and mass murder. The resolution states: Resolved by the House of Representatives that Congress denounces socialism in all its forms and opposes the implementation of socialist policies in the United States.

Notably, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who had endorsed Mamdani shortly before the election, also voted in favor of the resolution. Meanwhile, two Democrats, Representatives Deborah Ross of Pennsylvania and Janelle Bynum of Oregon, opted to vote present.

Although the resolution is nonbinding, it arrives at a critical juncture as progressive leaders such as Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez continue to advocate for increased government control over sectors like healthcare and education. In this context, Mamdani, a self-proclaimed socialist, is set to meet with President Donald Trump on Friday, a meeting that underscores the growing public resistance to socialist ideologies.

President Trump announced the meeting on TRUTH Social, stating, Communist Mayor of New York City, Zohran Kwame Mamdani, has asked for a meeting. We have agreed that this meeting will take place at the Oval Office on Friday, November 21st. Further details to follow! Mamdani, despite acknowledging his "many disagreements" with President Trump, expressed his willingness to collaborate for the benefit of New Yorkers.

At a press conference on Thursday, he remarked, I intend to make it clear to President Trump that I will work with him on any agenda that benefits New Yorkers. If an agenda hurts New Yorkers, I will also be the first to say something.

Mamdani further emphasized the significance of the meeting, noting, I know that for tens of thousands of New Yorkers, this meeting is between two very different candidates who they voted for, for the same reason. They wanted a leader who would take on the cost-of-living crisis that makes it impossible for working people to afford living in this city.
