In a recent development, several Democratic lawmakers have been placed under round-the-clock security following a video they released urging military personnel to defy "illegal orders" from President Donald Trump's administration.
This move comes after the President accused them of "seditious behavior," as reported by the New York Post. During an appearance on MS NOW's "All In with Chris Hayes," Senator Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) revealed, Capitol Police came to us and said, Were gonna put you on 24/7 security.
According to The Post Millennial, Slotkin, alongside Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ) and Representatives Chris Deluzio (D-PA), Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA), Maggie Goodlander (D-NH), and Jason Crow (D-CO), produced a 60-second video. In it, they addressed U.S. servicemembers and intelligence community members, stating, Right now, the threats to our Constitution arent just coming from abroad, but from right here at home. Our laws are clear. You can refuse illegal orders you must refuse illegal orders."
The video prompted a fierce response from President Trump, who took to Truth Social to express his outrage. He declared, Each one of these traitors to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL. Their words cannot be allowed to stand We wont have a Country anymore!!! An example MUST BE SET. In a subsequent post, he labeled their actions as SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!
Slotkin, reflecting on the heightened security measures, remarked, "Weve got law enforcement out in front of my house. I mean, it changes things immediately. And leadership climate is set from the top. And if the President is saying you should be hanged, then we shouldnt be surprised when folks on the ground are going to follow suit and say even worse.
The President further escalated tensions by sharing a post from another account on Truth Social, which read, Hang them George Washington would!!"
Slotkin's background includes serving as a CIA analyst and working at the State Department during the Obama administration. Her colleagues in the video also possess military or similar experience, underscoring their understanding of the gravity of the orders they addressed. As the situation unfolds, questions arise about the implications of such rhetoric on national security and the rule of law.
