In a recent analysis, CNN's chief data analyst Harry Enten highlighted a significant surge in President Donald Trump's approval ratings concerning foreign policy.
Enten noted that Trump's current standing in this domain is not only a marked improvement from his first term but also surpasses that of any other second-term president in the 21st century.
According to Mediaite, Enten shared these insights with anchor John Berman, emphasizing that foreign policy is a notable area where Trump has shown considerable progress since his return to office.
"This is one of the areas in which Donald Trump is performing significantly better than he was in term one," Enten remarked, pointing out the rise in Trump's foreign policy approval from 35% during his first term to 43% now. He described this increase as "up like a rocket," highlighting the "double digit rise" in net approval.
Enten further elaborated on the data, noting that while Trump often lags behind other presidents in various metrics, his foreign policy approval is a clear exception. A graphic presented during the segment illustrated that former President George W. Bush had a 36% approval rating, and former President Barack Obama stood at 37% at similar points in their second terms. This positions Trump as the leader among 21st-century two-term presidents in this regard.
"This is something I think Donald Trump really likes to look at because the bottom line is this presidents like to build their legacies off of foreign policy," Enten explained. He added that the American public currently favors Trump's foreign policy actions more than those of his two-term predecessors.
A significant factor contributing to this approval boost, Enten argued, is the public's positive response to Trump's involvement in facilitating a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. "The American people liked what Trump was able to do between the Israelis and Hamas," he stated, contrasting Trump's +3% net approval with former President Joe Biden's 37% negative rating at the conclusion of his presidency.
Looking to the future, Enten mentioned prediction markets that suggest a 56% probability of Israel and Saudi Arabia normalizing relations during Trump's term. Such a development could further enhance the President's foreign policy legacy, solidifying his standing in this critical area.
