In the world of politics, Senator John Kennedy is a unique figure.
His wit and humor have often been likened to that of a stand-up comedian, and his recent comments on the internal strife within the Democratic party have once again showcased his distinctive style.
During an appearance on "Will Cain Country," Kennedy offered his perspective on the division within the Democratic party, particularly in the wake of the government reopening.
According to RedState, Kennedy's remarks were both insightful and humorous, as he dissected the power dynamics within the Democratic party. He commented on the apparent civil war within the party, between those who voted to reopen the government and those who wished for its continued closure.
"Senator Schumer gambled, and he lost, and he's kind of walking around now looking like a guy who just lost his luggage," Kennedy said. "He did this to try to make the Bolshevik wing, which is in control of his party like him, love him, and now they're madder than ever at him."
Kennedy further elaborated on the "Bolshevik wing," or the "socialist wing," of the party, which he believes is led by Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14). He suggested that Ocasio-Cortez may not fully comprehend the extent to which the shutdown harmed the American people. Kennedy also speculated on Ocasio-Cortez's future political ambitions, which could include challenging fellow Democrat Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (NY-8) for the House speakership, running for Schumer's Senate seat, or even a presidential bid.
Kennedy's comments also highlighted the fear he believes Schumer harbors towards Ocasio-Cortez and her potential to usurp his Senate seat. "There are a lot of Democrats, one of whom I think is Senator Schumer, who understand that, uh, the loon wing of his party are a bunch of loons. But, I think he's scared of them," Kennedy stated. "I think his testicles are on back order from China."
Kennedy's remarks were met with laughter from Cain, but the Senator continued to discuss Ocasio-Cortez's growing influence, particularly following the election of Zohran Mamdani as mayor of New York City. Despite this, Kennedy described Ocasio-Cortez as a creation of the media, and not a particularly intellectual one. "They love her like the devil loves sin, man. I mean, they just uhand I get why," Kennedy observed. "She's attractive. She's pretty articulate on television. She's bold in her statements. But I've never heard anybody describe her as a policy maven."
Kennedy's comments underscore the ongoing power struggle within the Democratic party, which he believes could have detrimental effects on the party and the country. He suggested that Schumer, a member of the party's old guard, is likely to be replaced due to his inability to effectively navigate the Trump era. Similarly, he noted that other established figures like Nancy Pelosi are also on their way out, and newer members like Jeffries are unlikely to be able to control the more radical elements within the party.
As previously reported by RedState's Nick Arama, Ocasio-Cortez has hinted at the possibility of challenging Schumer and other Democrats from the left. Kennedy, however, remains hopeful that the socialist extremists are still a minority within the Democratic party. "I don't think the loon wing of the party is the majority of the Democratic party," he said. "Maybe I'm naive, but it's clear that the loon wing of the party is the loudest. It's clear that she leads them. It's clear that they are in the ascendancy."
Kennedy concluded by stating that until the more moderate Democrats stand up to Ocasio-Cortez and her followers, the chaos within the party will continue. This chaos, he suggests, is indicative of a new norm within the Democratic party, where the so-called "rational Democrats" are dwindling and the more radical elements are gaining prominence.
As for Schumer and his fellow Democrats, Kennedy's humorous yet pointed comment suggests that their ability to regain control may not be imminent.
