Turning Point USA CEO Erika Kirk has expressed her personal stance against pursuing the death penalty for the individual accused of murdering her husband, Charlie Kirk.
Despite the arrest of Tyler Robinson over a month ago, the Justice Department has yet to move forward with prosecution in the case involving the conservative activist's death. This delay is attributed to the defense's ongoing review of what prosecutors have described as "voluminous" evidence.
In a conversation with Jesse Watters on "Jesse Watters Primetime," Erika Kirk was questioned about her views on seeking capital punishment for Robinson.
"I do not want this mans blood on my ledger when I stand before the Lord. I want the government to decide. Its Biblical, too. Justice will ultimately be served," Erika Kirk stated during the interview.
As reported by the Daily Caller, Erika Kirk extended public forgiveness to her husband's alleged assailant during a memorial service, emphasizing her refusal to respond to evil with hatred. Robinson, aged 22, was apprehended approximately 33 hours after the fatal shooting of Kirk at a "Prove Me Wrong" event held at Utah Valley University.
On the cross, our Savior said, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do, Kirk remarked, her voice laden with emotion. That man, that young man I forgive him.
Robinson faces charges in Utah County, including aggravated murder, felony firearm discharge causing serious injury, obstruction of justice, witness tampering, and committing a violent offense in the presence of a child.
While murder is not inherently a federal crime, the FBI notes that certain circumstances can bring a case under federal jurisdiction. Zack Smith, a senior legal fellow at the Heritage Foundation, explained to the Daily Caller News Foundation that the Justice Department might still pursue the case if there is a federal element, such as terrorism, hate crimes, or firearm violations.
