On a recent episode of "The View," co-host Whoopi Goldberg found herself in hot water after making a misleading statement about President Trump.
The incident unfolded during a discussion about Trump's "60 Minutes" interview, where Sunny Hostin criticized Trump for claiming he had "no idea" who Changpeng "CZ" Zhao was before granting him a pardon. Zhao, the founder of Binance, the largest cryptocurrency exchange by volume, was a controversial figure.
Hostin remarked, "The Trump family has made about $1.8 billion off of this government," and questioned, "How come you (Trump) dont know who this guy is?" Goldberg then interjected with a false assertion, claiming, "Because he used an autopen!"
This statement was quickly debunked, as it is widely known that Trump personally signed pardons, unlike President Biden, who has been criticized for his extensive use of autopen signatures.
According to the Gateway Pundit, the situation escalated when Hostin handed Goldberg a note from the show's producers, urging her to correct the false claim about Trump's use of an autopen for the Zhao pardon. Goldberg's reaction was one of disbelief and frustration.
"What!?" she exclaimed upon receiving the note, and her anger grew as she read it. "We dont know if pen useIf Trump used an autopen to pardonIt was a joke!" she shouted, before tearing up the note in exasperation. "Oh, come on!" she added, lamenting the lack of understanding of nuance in today's discourse.
The incident highlights the ongoing tension between media figures and the portrayal of President Trump. It underscores the importance of accuracy and accountability in public discourse, particularly when discussing high-profile figures and their actions.
