In a strategic maneuver, Ukrainian forces have reportedly targeted a crucial fuel pipeline in Russia's Moscow region, a move that could significantly disrupt the Russian military's logistics.
This development, announced by Ukraine's military intelligence agency, HUR, comes as Russia continues its relentless drone and missile assaults on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
According to Breitbart, the operation, executed late Friday, was described by HUR as a "serious blow" to Russia's military supply chain. The targeted Koltsevoy pipeline, which extends 400 kilometers (approximately 250 miles), is a vital conduit for gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel from refineries located in Ryazan, Nizhny Novgorod, and Moscow.
HUR reported that the attack successfully destroyed all three fuel lines near the Ramensky district. The pipeline's capacity to transport millions of tons of fuel annually underscores the potential impact of this strike on Russian military operations.
Kyrylo Budanov, head of HUR, emphasized the significance of the operation, stating, "Our strikes have had more impact than sanctions," alluding to the international sanctions imposed on Russia following its aggressive actions against Ukraine, including the February 2022 invasion.
Meanwhile, the conflict's toll on civilians continues to mount. In southern Ukraine, a Russian ballistic missile strike resulted in the death of one civilian and injuries to 15 others, including a child, as reported by local official Vitaliy Kim. The attack on the Mykolaiv region involved an Iskander missile.
Additionally, a separate Russian strike ignited a fire at a gas plant in Ukraine's central Poltava region, according to Ukraine's emergency services.
These incidents are part of a broader pattern of Russian aggression, characterized by extensive drone and missile attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. These attacks have led to widespread power outages and restrictions, which Kyiv has condemned as "systematic energy terror."
Overnight into Saturday, Russia launched 223 drones at Ukraine, with the Ukrainian air force successfully intercepting 206 of them. However, 17 drones managed to hit targets across seven Ukrainian regions.
In another attack, Russia targeted an agricultural enterprise in Ukraine's northern Chernihiv region, injuring a 66-year-old woman, as reported by regional government official Viacheslav Chaus on Telegram. The ongoing conflict continues to inflict significant damage on Ukraine's infrastructure and civilian population, raising questions about the long-term implications for both nations involved.
