New York Governor Kathy Hochul is experiencing firsthand the adage that no good deed goes unpunished.
Her recent endorsement of Zohran Mamdani, a Democratic Socialist, has led to an awkward situation that underscores the growing influence of radical elements within the Democratic Party. During a rally appearance with Mamdani, Hochul was met with chants of "tax the rich," prompting Mamdani to escort her off stage in a manner reminiscent of a grandmother being led away for a nap.
As reported by the New York Post, Hochul attempted to downplay the incident by claiming she misheard the crowd, thinking they were chanting "Lets go Bills" in support of the Buffalo Bills. "I thought they were saying Lets go Bills, she explained when questioned about the anti-wealthy chant. "I wasnt sure I heard some noise, I heard a lot of cheers. But later on it became clear to me, I know there is a passion for that."
This episode highlights the internal struggle within the Democratic Party as it grapples with the rise of Democratic Socialists, who advocate for redistributing wealth from those who have earned it to those who have not. Hochul's predicament is further complicated by a tight race against Republican challenger Elise Stefanik, which could potentially unseat her as governor.
The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) have made no secret of their intentions to infiltrate the Democratic Party, likened to the Ophiocordyceps fungus that infects and controls ants. This analogy paints a vivid picture of the potential consequences for Democrats like Hochul, who may find themselves at odds with the party's shifting base.
Even Andrew Cuomo has sounded the alarm, cautioning that figures like Mamdani and Omar Fateh could spell disaster for the Democratic Party's future.
