In a recent interview, Sarah Ferguson, a reporter for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, confronted former Vice President Kamala Harris about her evasion of questions concerning the declining health of former President Joe Biden.
Harris has been actively promoting her book, "107 Days," during which she has been repeatedly questioned about Biden's health and her loss in the 2024 presidential race.
According to the Daily Caller, Ferguson questioned Harris on whether Biden's refusal to acknowledge his "frailties" had negatively impacted her campaign. Harris responded by shifting the focus to her opponent, Donald Trump. "I ran against Donald Trump for president and Donald Trump ran on a platform that was in large part, I believe, misrepresenting his intentions to the American people," Harris stated.
She went on to suggest that Trump's unfulfilled promises, coupled with widespread misinformation and a compressed timeline, played a significant role in the election outcome.
Ferguson, however, redirected the conversation back to Biden, stating, "I want to interrupt you because that is a world-class pivot, but it is not the question that I asked you, which is about Joe Bidens failure to recognize his own frailties and what that did to you." Ferguson further probed Harris on her reluctance to criticize the former president.
In response, Harris insisted that Biden "was not frail as president." Ferguson then referenced Biden's subpar performance during a CNN debate with Trump on June 27, 2024, where Biden appeared to lose his train of thought, seemed rigid, and made several verbal errors. "But he had frailties. We all saw the debate," Ferguson countered. Harris maintained her stance, asserting, "I do believe that Joe Biden had the capacity to be president of the United States, and Ive never doubted that he had the capacity to be president of the United States."
The conversation continued with Harris acknowledging her concerns about Biden's ability to withstand the rigors of a presidential race in the 2024 political climate. She referred to her book, where she extensively discussed the context of the debate and Biden's demanding travel schedule. "Im not shying away from that. Thats why I wrote it in the book, because I do know its a question people had," Harris stated.
Prior to Biden's announcement on July 21, 2024, that he would not seek reelection, The Wall Street Journal had published several articles about his deteriorating mental acuity. Despite confirmation from multiple sources, these reports faced resistance from other media outlets and Democrats.
On December 19, 2024, the Journal disclosed that White House aides had "insulated" Biden from his Cabinet members as his health and mental capacity continued to worsen.
Biden revealed in May that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had metastasized to the bone. According to the Mayo Clinic, prostate cancer that has spread to the bone is typically classified as Stage 4B cancer, with a survival rate of 37% over five years from diagnosis.
This revelation further underscores the questions surrounding Biden's health during his presidency and the impact it may have had on the 2024 election.
