Over the weekend, Karine Jean-Pierre, the former White House press secretary, found herself in the hot seat during a series of interviews.
Once a regular guest on MSNBC, she was met with a less than warm welcome, as she was questioned about her role in concealing President Joe Biden's physical and mental deterioration during his presidency.
One of the most notable incidents during her tenure was her public criticism of Robert Hur. As reported by RedState, Hur, who was serving as special counsel at the time, interviewed Biden regarding his alleged illegal retention of classified documents after his terms as senator and vice president.
The conclusion of the investigation was that Biden, due to his numerous documented memory lapses and cognitive issues, was essentially too senile to be charged. This was a conclusion reached by Hur after careful observation and documentation.
Following the public revelation of this information, the White House went on the offensive. Jean-Pierre led the charge against Hur, refusing to release the transcript or audio of the interview, while accusing Hur of pushing a partisan agenda.
When Donald Trump assumed the presidency, the audio of the interview was finally made public. It revealed that Jean-Pierre and her team had knowingly misrepresented several exchanges, including the false claim that Hur had inappropriately mentioned the death of Biden's son.
In reality, it was Biden who brought up his son's death without any specific reason, a habit he frequently exhibited during his presidency, only to later forget the year it occurred.
During one of her recent interviews, Jean-Pierre was asked if she had ever apologized to Hur, a question that seemed to catch her off guard. She was unable to provide a clear answer, instead insisting that she saw the president every day and that he was sharp and understanding of policy and history.
She maintained this narrative despite the overwhelming evidence of Biden's mental decline, which had a significant impact on the 2024 election.
In an attempt to deflect from the question, Jean-Pierre resorted to discussing her identity as a "black" and "queer" woman. When asked if she had any regrets about her time as press secretary, she avoided a direct answer, instead emphasizing her pride in being a black, queer woman holding a position of such prominence. This move to identity politics is a common tactic among Democrats, often used as a defense mechanism when faced with difficult questions.
However, it's important to note that being a "black woman who is queer" does not excuse her actions. Her role in perpetuating falsehoods on behalf of herself and Biden cannot be justified by her identity. Yet, it seems unlikely that she will express any remorse for her actions.
While it's commendable that the press is finally holding Jean-Pierre accountable for her role in the cover-up, it's also worth noting their own complicity in this matter. Outlets like RedState have published hundreds of articles documenting Biden's mental decline, often accompanied by video evidence.
These videos were widely circulated, making Biden's condition no secret. Yet, networks like MSNBC, who are now seemingly eager to absolve themselves of their own failings, spent the majority of Biden's presidency denying there was an issue. In fact, those who pointed out the obvious were accused of spreading disinformation.
So, while it's satisfying to see Jean-Pierre being held to account for her actions, it's also a stark reminder of the media's own failings. They were aware of Biden's condition and chose to ignore it. This recent shift in their approach only serves to highlight their own lack of credibility.
