California Governor Gavin Newsom, often seen as a leading figure among Democrats, finds himself in a precarious position following a recent poll that suggests he is trailing behind former Vice President Kamala Harris in the race for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination.
The survey, conducted by Noble Predictive Insights during the first week of October, indicates that Harris is ahead of Newsom among both Democrats and independents.
According to Breitbart, the poll reveals Harris securing 33 percent support from Democrats and 27 percent from independents, while Newsom lags with 13 percent and three percent, respectively. This development challenges Newsom's presumed status as the frontrunner, a position he appeared to hold comfortably in August when a Politico poll showed him leading Harris by six percentage points.
Other potential candidates in the poll include Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who garnered eight percent, and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who received seven percent support.
Newsom has been vocal in his criticism of President Trump and the Republican Party, employing a social media strategy filled with provocative memes and bold accusations. He has labeled Trump and Republicans as "fascists," a term he also used to describe White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller.
This rhetoric has sparked controversy, particularly when Newsom referred to Miller, who is Jewish, as "SS," alluding to the Nazi regime responsible for the Holocaust. Such incendiary remarks have drawn criticism and may contribute to the shifting dynamics within the Democratic Party.
As the political landscape evolves, Newsom's aggressive tactics and controversial statements may impact his standing among voters, raising questions about his ability to maintain his influence within the party.
