Tensions Rise: Minority Leader Jeffries Is Still Holding Out On Mamdani Endorsement

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) remains hesitant to endorse Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic socialist who has secured his party's nomination for New York City mayor.

Despite repeated inquiries, Jeffries has yet to offer his support, raising questions about his reluctance to back Mamdani. During an interview with ABC's Jonathan Karl, Jeffries sidestepped the issue, expressing a desire to "continue" discussions with Mamdani without making any firm commitments.

According to Sean Hannity, Jeffries' silence is particularly notable as early voting approaches. When Karl pressed him, asking, "You still havent endorsed Zohran Mamdani, have you?" Jeffries responded simply, "I have not." He maintained that he would engage in further dialogue with Mamdani "in advance of early voting," promising to "have more to say" at that timea refrain he has echoed for months.

Jeffries has previously cited the need for a "conversation" with Mamdani, emphasizing the necessity for Mamdani to "clarify" his stance on Israel. "Globalizing the Intifada, by way of example, is not an acceptable phrasing," Jeffries stated, indicating that Mamdani must address this issue as he progresses. Jeffries, representing a Brooklyn district with an 11 percent Jewish population, has voiced concerns over Mamdani's endorsement of the BDS movement and his controversial assertion that he would arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he were to visit New York City.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, Jeffries' position on Mamdani remains a focal point, with many awaiting his final decision as early voting looms.
