Reckless And Dangerous!: Newsom Rages At JD Vance After Vice Presidents Motorcade Caught In Shrapnel Chaos

California Governor Gavin Newsom has launched a scathing critique of Vice President JD Vance, labeling him as "reckless" for proceeding with a Marine Corps celebration shortly after an incident involving Vance's security motorcade.

The motorcade was struck by shrapnel from a "prematurely detonated" shell during the event, which marked the 250th anniversary of the Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton in North San Diego.

According to Mediaite, the incident involved a 155-millimeter shell that was fired during the commemoration, resulting in fragments hitting a California Highway Patrol vehicle and motorcycle that were part of the Vice President's security detail. Fortunately, no officers sustained injuries, though one officer likened the sound to "pebbles hitting his motorcycle and the area around him."

Two other officers reported that a two-inch piece of shrapnel struck their car's hood, leaving a minor dent.

Governor Newsom wasted no time in expressing his disapproval on social media, criticizing the Vice President for proceeding with the event despite prior objections. "We love our Marines and owe a debt of gratitude to Camp Pendleton, but next time, the Vice President and the White House shouldnt be so reckless with peoples lives for their vanity projects," Newsom posted on X.

The Governor's discontent was further fueled by the closure of a 17-mile stretch of Interstate 5, which was shut down for several hours to accommodate artillery exercises at the military base. Newsom described the celebration as a "profoundly absurd show of force that could put Californians directly in harms way."

Meanwhile, the White House clarified that it had not requested the freeway closure, emphasizing the importance of the military exercises. "We appreciate the publics patience as Marines and Sailors conduct realistic training during todays historic Amphibious Capabilities Demonstration, showcasing the strength and unity of the Navy-Marine Corps team and ensuring we remain ready to defend the Homeland and our Nations interests abroad," the White House stated.
