In a display of intergenerational activism, older Americans took to the streets on Saturday as part of the nationwide "No Kings" protests, rallying under the banner of "Grantifa."
These demonstrators, identifying as "Grandparents Against Fascism," voiced their opposition to President Donald Trump and his administration's policies. The protests, characterized by handmade signs and shirts emblazoned with anti-fascist messages, highlighted the growing involvement of older citizens in political activism.
Activist Shane Claiborne captured the spirit of the movement by sharing an image of two senior protesters holding signs that read, "GRANTIFA: Grandpops Against Fascism" and "GRANTIFA: Grandmoms Against Fascism." Claiborne expressed optimism on X, stating, "I met Grantifa today. Were gonna be alright. #NoKings #NoKingsDayOct18th."
Meanwhile, another X user, William Coffin, posted a photo from Arizona featuring two older women in blue "Grantifa" shirts, captioned, "Its about to go down in AZ!"
As reported by Breitbart, the "No Kings" protests spanned numerous cities across the United States, with participants decrying what they perceive as "authoritarianism" under President Trump. The demonstrations attracted a diverse array of individuals and groups, including those donning inflatable costumes and carrying homemade signs.
Prominent Democrats, such as Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senator Cory Booker, Senator Adam Schiff, and former Representative Beto ORourke, lent their support to the events, which organizers claimed were aimed at empowering the populace.
Fox News Digital's investigation revealed that the "No Kings" movement receives funding from a network of Democratic-aligned nonprofits, labor unions, and political action committees. Some of these partner organizations have ties to anti-Israel activism, with billionaire donor George Soross Open Society Foundations reportedly providing substantial grants to groups involved in organizing the protests.
In response, Republican lawmakers, including Senator Ted Cruz and Senator Chuck Grassley, have called for inquiries into the financial backing of these demonstrations.
Breitbart News has previously noted the increasing presence of older participants at "No Kings" protests, which have been ongoing since earlier this year. In Virginia, a significant portion of attendees were over 60, many of whom carried signs addressing issues like Social Security, Medicare, and opposition to perceived authoritarianism. Despite their criticism of the Trump administration, some protesters displayed patriotic symbols, such as American flags.
The rise of "Grantifa" comes amid intensified federal scrutiny of left-wing protest networks. President Trump, in September, designated Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization, citing its involvement in orchestrated violence and intimidation.
An executive order was issued to investigate and dismantle the group's funding channels, labeling Antifa as a "militarist, anarchist enterprise" responsible for coordinating riots and attacks on law enforcement.
White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent have committed to leveraging the full power of the federal government to disrupt the financing of left-wing domestic terror networks. They have vowed to "follow the money" behind organized street protests, with the administration's objective being to identify and dismantle "terrorist operations" conducted by groups operating under Antifa-associated names or slogans.
