Cartel Gunmen Launch Deadly Ambush On Mexican Soldiers Just Miles From Texas Border

In a brazen display of violence, the Cartel Del Noreste (CDN) faction of Los Zetas orchestrated two ambush-style assaults on Mexican military personnel just south of the Texas border.

In one of these incidents, the cartel's gunmen allegedly attempted to abduct two soldiers. The CDN-Los Zetas is among six Mexican cartels that the U.S. government has classified as foreign terrorist organizations.

The initial attack unfolded on a Thursday morning along a dirt road in a rural area straddling the border between Coahuila and Nuevo Leon. A contingent of Mexican soldiers, engaged in routine patrols, fell victim to an ambush by a group of armed assailants. During this confrontation, two soldiers sustained injuries, and reports suggest they were taken captive.

However, Mexican authorities have yet to confirm the occurrence of an abduction. This incident prompted a swift and extensive response, with state and federal forces launching a search operation to locate the gunmen and the missing soldiers.

Shortly after the alleged abduction, the CDN-Los Zetas gunmen released the injured soldiers, who were subsequently transported to a medical facility for treatment and are expected to recover.

According to Breitbart, the deployment of security forces in response to the initial attack precipitated a second encounter later that day, shortly after 5 p.m., in another rural locale. In this subsequent clash, authorities neutralized one gunman, injured another, and apprehended two women.

This series of attacks comes amid the CDN-Los Zetas' ongoing efforts to expand their influence into Nuevo Leon and other regions of Tamaulipas. However, their attempts to penetrate Coahuila have been thwarted by the proactive measures of the Coahuila State Attorney Generals office and state police forces, who have been diligent in dismantling any attempts by the cartel to establish operations within the state.
